Got to 143 MPH today in my 5AT!
WEEEE !
1st, let me start off by saying "Don't try this at home". Up till now the fastest I have ever driven was 137 MPH in my 1984 z31 turbo. Anyway I decided to see what my 5AT had in her today. I hit 143 MPH just after I hit 5th gear in full automatic mode. Wanted to at least see if she could make it to 150, but I seen someone pull into my lane up ahead so I needed to let off. She was still pulling at that speed, but it was too hard for me to tell how me she had left in her. So. All Bull shiting aside. How fast have you 5AT owners gotten up to? I know the 6MT's can reach 155 or more. But lets hear from other 5AT owners and their experiences.

I've personally done the max speed in both a auto and manual Z and they ride like a dream even to the top. I'd say if anything around 140+ you might get a little floaty to use your own words. But let's just say it wasn't floaty enough for me to put up my windows or close the sunroof ( yes it is a 350z ). I believe with the automatic I got a speedometer reading of 149 mph and the manual 156 mph.

04_silverstone ,
Was this with a 5AT or 6MT ? I know the 6MT is capable of 155+ MPH. I'm just curious about what the 5AT's can do.

I-295 South. Down past exit 10. I guess everybody was across the river on I-95 today.

That's hot... My top so far is 141mph. I could've pushed for more but the clear lanes were too good to be true so I let off.
The handling was awesome! Compared to my old Civic EX where 115 was so shakey, a fly could knock it off its course!

I hit 138 in my auto since last friday on 924 East at 5 in the morning. Before that it was 136 on I-75 North (and for you that say there was no point in speeding, i was late to meet my ex-girlfriend's parents....very important) It was still climing with no one in my way but I wussied out. Yes yes i'm a wuss, i know. Maybe someday i'll hit that Auto topspeed of 149...maybe like tomorrow...

here in NJ too, i got up to 142 on a backroad here in cape may county, but truthfully i dont think i got the cajones to do it again or go any faster than that. all i kept thinking was that if i blow a tire im dead. i routinely hit the low triple digits on the parkway though and it feels right at home at that speed.

I've gotten her up to 80 or 85! Once up there I got a little scared and backed off a bit. I have heard these cars will break 150 if you have the nuts to push them.
Seriously though, unless you have a gps running, it's almost useless to look at your speedometer. I would say that if your speedo says 150, you're more than likely doing no more than 135, maybe 140. Generally speedos are off about 8-10% well into triple digits. After riding my bike it's pointless to even try to go fast for me, my poor car feel anemic..hehe. Still fun though.
