New Chrome Emblem Installation TIPS
NEW Z CHROME EMBLEMS
Installation Tips

What you'll need:
- Household hair dryer
- Knife
- Towel
- Adhesive remover
About the emblems: The front emblem is bigger than the rear. The emblem only comes in one size (large) as far as I know. This means your rear emblem will become bigger. If you order a pair from http://courtesyparts.com/, they wil be the same size (large). Here is a picture of the stock emblems to show size difference:

Also, make sure you have the correct side up:

Prep the emblem to be removed by holding a hair dryer to it as close as possible for at least 2 minutes. It should be too hot to touch.
Next position a barrier (I used a rag) between your knife blade and the paint.
Slowly slide the blade under the side of the emblem. Continue inserting and twisting the blade. Pull the towel along with the blade to avoid paint damage. When you have pryed the emblem up enough, you will see the adhesive. The adhesive/emblem should be hot enough that the emblem separates from the adhesive, leaving only the adhesive behind. If adhesive is sticking to the emblem, apply heat for 2-3 more minutes.

(Sickening image, isn't it?)
After removing the emblem:

Next, start removing a section of adhesive by heating it for about 10 seconds. Using a fingernail first, get it started then use just the finger to continue rolling it up into a ball. You should not have to scrape it with your fingernail. You must reheat every minute. No adhesive remover has been used to this point:

The adhesive should be 95% gone after removing it by hand. Then use adhesive remover on the rest. This kind did not harm my paint or bumper:

However, you will mess up your paint by pressing too hard to remove the adhesive. Use gentle pressure, and let the remover do the work. You don't have to be as careful with the front bumper.

NOTE ON THE REAR EMBLEM ADHESIVE: It did not come off as cleanly as the front (probably didn't heat it long enough, and it was the first emblem I tried). Anyway, I did not totally remove all adhesive from the rear. I got to a point where it as clean "enough" to put the new emblem down on it. IF YOU CHOOSE TO LEAVE SOME ADHESIVE BEHIND ON THE REAR, at least remove ALL adhesive for the areas highlighted in red here:

WHY? Since the new emblem is larger, any adhesive left in the read areas will be visible.
GOOD LUCK - AND BE PATIENT WITH THE ADHESIVE!!!
Pat
p.s. If your knife nicks the paint under the rear emblem, it's not a big deal - no one will see it; however, I recommend you use touch up paint anyway to protect it from rusting.

I've also heard that pulling a string (wire, fishing line, floss) behind the emblem is an alternative to the knife...
I found that you don't really need the Goo Gone stuff. I just heated up the remaining adhesive, put on a work glove (you do do yard work, don't you?), and then just rubbed with a gloved finger until all of the adhesive had come off. Takes just a couple of minutes - most had come off with the emblem to begin with.

I used a flathead SMALL screwdriver to CAREFULLY remove mine... nevertheless, nice writeup! It took me about 10 minutes to do it all...I also removed my "350z" Just heat, and peel...(rubbed off residue) nothing else needed...
