Default Key fob & keyless entry ?

Is it just me or does everyone who owns an 03 have to be pretty much on top of the car for it to work? The manual says 33 feet, but my 02 Altima aways worked at much greater distances. If I'm at my front door I have to hold the fob up over my head and point it directly at my Z for it to work. The Altima fob would work if I was sitting on my sofa. What gives? Dealer says it's the difference in cars. Was there a problem with faulty key fobs? BTW, both of my fobs work about the same.

My fob works from about 30-40 ft. Might want to check the batteries or bring the fobs to your Nissan dealer and show them the problem.

I have to be within about 20 ft for the FOB to work. My '00 Maxima's fob will work from about 80 ft away. The funny thing is about my Z, if I am up in my office (4 stories up) above my car, yes, I can see it below me out of my office windows, the fob works great. If I could grow to about 7 ' tall my fob function would be awesome.

If you grew to 7 ft they'd have to set your set against the back brace. Who needs rear speakers anyways? lol

Inside the parking garage, mine will work from about 150' away. At night if it's almost empty I can press the button at one end and see the lights flash at the other end. Not sure if that's because it's in a garage or not.

Yeah, that is strange. The higer the fob, the better it works. Thats why I stated in the original post "I have to hold the fob up over my head and point it directly at my Z for it to work." Hmmm.
Wonder why height makes a difference? Wonder where the receiver in the car is located ?

When mine was about a month old, I got the fob to work from across the parking lot where I work.... I'd say about 150 feet. I haven't tried it recently. Check your batteries.

Edit: Whoops, you said '03. Mine's an '04.5

Some fobs will work twice their normal distance if wou hold them directly under your chin. My '97 Jetta is like that. Not sure if my '04 Z is like that or not, its normal range is farther than my Jetta's normal range.

I've had a problem lately where after the car sits for more than a few hours, my key-fob will only work if I lock the car first, then unlock it and sometimes doesn't work unless I unlock the car with a key and start the car. Then I can turn the car off and the fob will work normally. This happens for both fobs, and the car is only a few months old. Anyone else have this happen?

When you touch the fob to the bottom of your chin., your skull becomes the new, bigger antena.

If the fob works better by your head, I going to keep it in my pocket when I activate it. That huge antenna in my pants should allow me to operate from 600 ft away.

I remember that my chemistry teacher told me that those key fobs for cars are radio waves so everything thats between you and the car is "invisible" to the radio waves. We even tried opening the car in a building with two walls and also around 20 people lined up with their backs directly facing the car which are in the building, then we pointed the key fob at the stomach of the person in front of the line and it worked perfectly. It is only restricted to a certain distance and raising the key fob doesnt really do anythin. And to the people who point their key fobs at the car when they press it, its sort of a useless movement because it can be pointed the other way and have it work the same.

Thanks for the info! I shall no longer carry my 6 ft step ladder with me!
