flat 18" tire

Has anyone determined if the 18" wheel/tire will fit in the hatch
area if you have a flat? Salesman says yes no problem, but they also told me the car has a full size spare? - I thought it has a space-saver type spare tire but wasn't going to argue.

It will fit and yes it has a full size emergency spare.

Careful by the definition of full size spare. It is full size in terms of diameter but not width. The stock wheel will stick up a bit after being placed in the spare tire well.
