So this all happened because you hydroplaned? That's nasty... You dind't see a big puddle appraoching? It must have been raining too hard I guess...

 

Well the insurance company called. They appraised the damage at only $2000??? yea... well nissan called as well and said the insurance company low balled them bigtime. No big deal, it has already started being fixed! I cant wiat to get my damn car back. First mod when i get it back is some nice high traction street tires! :-)

 

Sucks man. Makes me think twice abou this past weekends 135+ mph trip to hilton head. I do have Z rated 19's though, but still. I couldn't imagine wrecking this car.

 

Not to mention the tread on these summer performance tires is nothing like tread on my Pathfinder. I had some Yokohama Geolander HT/Ss rated best All Season on Tirerack. The tread was like 5/8 inch thick, I could go so fast in them. I feel like that's not possible with such a shallow tread WIDER tire.

Zcollector, that white knuckle feeling is all too familiar. Glad these horror stories ended up with everyone okay though.

 

The day I picked up my Z (almost a year ago) it rained HARD in lots of traffic on the way back to my town. I kept the speed limit under 60 the whole time on the freeway. Luckily nothing happened. Last thing I needed was to wreck my less-than-a-day-owned Z

agreed......isnt 70 or 75 the limit on most highways? if it's slick i'll cut back to 55-60. but glad you're OK

 

Some new tires would be a good idea, Chris...something that has better wet traction. I'd say Yoko AVS-ES100 if you aren't looking to spend a lot...they do very well in the rain.

 

this almost happened to me just a couple weeks ago. it's been raining here in miami almost everyday and i have a long drive to and from work. i was doing only about 50mph and decided to move up in speed a little bit...smoothly got on the gas and the back end slipped to the right then left then right and finally got traction again (btw vdc was on). needless to say i drive even slower in the rain now. that has to have been one of the worst experiences while driving ever.

glad you're okay. the z will be better in no time.

 

Good thing you're okay....on stock tires eh?..pretty dangerous in my opinion especially when they were 40% worn out.

I came to that conclusion when i decided to do donuts in the parking lot while it was raining....and realized how bad it can actually get even when the tcs is on.

I was in a down pour coming home from Mardi Gras, somewhere in Alabama. I had stock RE040s on at the time, and couldn't safely drive more than 45 MPG without the back end getting all loose. Since I changed to the S-03's, I can drive in rain much faster and much more stable. Just tonight coming to work withj the downpour, I was safely able to maintain the 65 MPH speed limit.

The RE040s SUCK in Rain. Get yourself a better tire.

Hope it gets fixed and looks good enough. Black is hard to match. Hope they don't use bondo

 

how could they bondo a ****ed up fender and the bumper is getting completely replaced. It shoudl be fine.

 

The cosmetic damage does not look as bad as I would have thought. I couldn't help but to wonder about your comment that both rear wheels are out of alignment, and that the trunk is also ajar from the body. I can't imagine that they think this is only going to cost 2 large to correct????

 

Chris, sorry the see your Z that way but glad to hear that you escaped without getting hurt.

Our rainy LA weather has concerned me on more than one occasion. I try to keep the speeds down because of the things I heard about our tires.

lol guess you haven't been around body work before. My friend wrecked his Z in the same spot and bondo was used. You would be surprised.

Sorry to say but your Z will never be the same, no matter what you try to make yourself believe.

I used to drive about 40mph in the rain when I used to have my 300zx - my bf goodrich comp t/a's back in the day were horrible with that car when wet (unreal when dry though )

The 350 seems deceptively stable in wet weather. I love it on city streets, 'cause its totally whip-able. But on freeway I don't trust its mass / rwd / big tires...

I just got my new rims & tires, but I'm keeping the stock rims for the 2 months of rain we get here in LA.

 

Well at least there isnt any major structural damage, glad your okay though.
