....Vegas has the WORST of it.... Not only drunk drivers, but then you got the crazy taxi drivers, and just the overall stupid drivers here.... Its a no wonder the insurance is DOUBLE of what it was when i was living in CA

 

My previous car was a toyota tercel.

I've been run off the road so many times by large cars.

Semi's are the worst. I almost got pushed up against a concrete devider because a semi decided to merge without checking if the lane was clear (2 other cars in the lane...) the other two got a head of me but a tercel doesn't have any pick up =P

I ended up slaming the brakes and missing his rear trailer wheels by inches.


The "Pretend you are invisbile" theory is the best I think. WHY take the chance at hoping the OTHER person is responsible. Thats like asking for trouble when you put the responsiblity of safety on someone you don't know.

My fravorite quote is from a bicyclist in a novel I read (Zodiac, Neil Stephenson) about a riding a bike in traffic in boston.
When he was asked why he doesn't wear the reflective jacket:

"Thats just asking to get killed. I bike like there is a 5 million dollar reward for my head, dead, and just assume everyone is trying to collect it."



Oh yeah, I asked my mom why she likes SUVS (Tahoe driver) and she says "because she feels safe".

Well DUH the reason you DIDN'T feel safe is because of the other SUV's on the road!!!!

In fact thats where I was on vacation at. The taxi drivers there are absolutely insane! There was several occasions where I saw cab drivers going 50+ mph while running red lights. They honk at you to get the hell out of their way. And I also learned, NEVER give your keys to the valet parkers at Imperial Palace (I didn't, thank god).

 

True and good effort on your part.

Wrong. When switching lanes on the highway, you're supposed to check your blinds spots by physically turning your head and looking that way, not simply relying on your side mirrors. But people get lazy and some just figure that if they don't see anything in the corner of their eye, then nothing's there. Others are just blahbing away on the cell phone, like the idiot in the Subaru wagon that ran me 3/4 off the highway onto the grass (medium) last week - and I had my front bumper at his front quarter. I watched him the whole way once he began to move over...he never looked back to check his blind spot.

Like someone else said on page 1...assume all others are idiots. Oh, and that doesn't mean we can't be idiots either. God knows I've done some moves that defy the meaning of stupidity. But at least we learn...or die trying!

For whomever said that semi's drive them off the road.
Actually the semi driver is much more scared of you than you are of him. The thing is that at freeway speed, semi's tend to create kinda a vortex around them because they're so much bigger so they pull you towards them. It causes you to have to steer away, its actually not their fault. Blame physics.

 

A few years back I was driving a Honda Prelude and was completely stopped in a traffic jam on the highway. Right behind me in my rearview mirror is a big semi. At some point I notice that the semi is getting closer. He then proceeds to hit me and start pushing me down the street until I hit the car in front of me. Lucky for me I panicked and hit the horn which alerted the driver that something was wrong. When I got out of the car to assess the damage, the driver of the semi said he couldn't see me over the nose of his truck, and only realized I was their when he heard me hit the car in front of me. Just something to keep in mind next time your stuck in traffic.

 

Just today, I was driving at the speed limit (30MPH) when some moron in a Yukon decides to tailgate me. We get to a red light and I gradually come to a stop and look in my rearview mirror as he slams on his brakes, drops his cell phone, and screeches his tires stopping about 2 inches from my bumper.

Well if he hit me, I would have gotten a new bumper and put a clearbra on. I got hit pretty hard in the front bumper a week ago but it only made little unnoticable lines in my front clearbra instead of ripping off the paint.

I have to watch the buttons and zippers from my clothes when I am leaning over the back bumper to get stuff from the hatch that is how soft my paint is (I scratched it with a zipper).

 

You have two choices when driving;

1) Assume other drivers are responsible & paying attention. Sooner or later this leads to being really POed with a damaged car and, maybe, body when you discover your assumption is wrong.

2) Assume others are idiots & do your best to anticipate their errors. Its the "invisible" approach I mentioned earlier.

I've gone with the latter & it has kept me & my vechicles in one piece for the last 35 years & around 750,000 or so miles. Not that the streak could not end the next time I drive out the garage but so far so good. (Excuse me while I go find some wood to knock on.........LOL!).

By way of example, when I see traffic stopped in front of me, I immediately look behind to see how close other cars are, pump my brakes lightly & repeatedly to create a "blinking" light effect,
and leave extra room in front in case I have to scoot up at the last second to accomodate some flake behind me not paying attention.

And I absolutely will not be tailgated. Eithor I move over (smart) & let them by or, if feeling ornery (and not so smart), slow way up to force them to back off or go around.

People we are all driving sports cars if you would drive the Z car like it is ment to be driven you would not have this problem. Just dive the Z like a damn fool.

 

If it was mandatory that everyone need to ride a street motorcycle for at least 2 years before they can apply for driver license,...........there would be alot less clueless fools out on the road. And the accident rate would drop by leaps and bounds (in 4 wheels vehicles anyway).

But I don't rule the universe, therefore any idiot can obtain a license and drive a big *** SUV......or a 300 horse fun toy. So heads up out there, people.

 

One time I was in New York and this cab was driving crazy all around town, and then he went through central park and tore it all up................Oh wait that was die harder, may bad.
