WRX - Give me a break!
What is it with these WRX owners bashing the 350Z? Are they f-ing kidding me? You know, when S2000 owners trash talk us, its all in good fun and we both have a mutual respect for each others beautiful machinery. But I have heard more trash talking from WRX owners in auto mags and forums, and I have to put my foot down. I don't give a rats *** if that thing outperforms a 360 Modeno.... bottom line is that it looks like a shitbox from the early 90's. I was driving behind one yesterday and every insult from WRX owners I came across ran through my mind- all I could do was laugh. Come on guys - it's a freakin SUBARU- I think the Outback has nicer lines on it. Keep talking all the trash you want... it'll be real funny when one of the phatest cars on the road leaves you in its dust ( A 350Z!). While your car looks like a decade old since the day it came out, the 350Z will continue to be one of the most unique and ahead of its times cars for years to come. You guys wanna keep talking all that trash, better head to the scrap yard, probably the only place where you might actually make some sense!
I dunno. I agree that WRX isn't the prettiest car to look at, and that it's performance isn't all that amazing. However, it has a few advantages over the Z, namely all wheel drive and the ability to mod it easily for a fairly small amount of money. For the $2000 we'd pay to buy a muffler that may give 1 hp, a WRX could do so much better. I'm parking my Z for the winter, my friend with a WRX will be able to continue to enjoy his.
Keep in mind that we get a de-tuned version of the WRX compared to the rest of the world. The real deal, if it comes next year, will crush the Z, and many other cars, with ease. It may be just a built up econobox, but it's still a performance bargain.

Don't let that talk get to you.
Bottom line either the WRX was bought before the Z came out, the dude needs a back seat, or the dude couldn't afford the payments on a Z.
Simple. The uglier the car, the more the need of ugly-car-driver to bash other cars to make ugly-car-driver feel confident in his purchase.
I like the WRX though. It's just, well, hard to look at.

I like the WRX, I had been in a toss up between a WRX or the new Z. After much deliberating and thought I came to a conclusion, the Nissan 350Z will turn a lot more heads and the styling in my opinion is ahead of its time like someone said in this thread. There were only two reasons that kept me thinking about purchasing a WRX, the 4 wheel drive and the fact that is turbocharged from the factory.
In stock trim, the WRX is not that compelling to me. It needs better brakes, tires, wheels, suspension to be a decent car on the track (which is what I care about) and then I'd turn to engine mods.
By the time you get to the motor, I think a disproportionate amount of cash would have been spent on an otherwise good deal.

Let's face it, besides both vehicles being cars, there's very little left to compare between a WRX and a 350Z. One is a 2 seat sports car and the other is a 4 seat sport compact.
Looks aside, becuase looks is a subjective topic that can not be quantified, the biggest let down on the WRX is it's horrible build quailty. A friend just sold his WRX due to it's absolutely dismal build quality. The interior had more rattles then a child's shaker toy. The car was completely stock and all he did was use it to drive to work (almost an identical trip that I take). The worst part, his WRX had less the 5k miles and owned it about 6 months. From what we found searching the internet, many other owners/past owners had the same exact complaint. Some people wrote the problems off with the 'potential' to modify.
The overall performance of the WRX is not the greatest in the world but it's no slouch either. Power is adequete and with a little work is decent to 100, afterwards the 4 wheel drive just slows it down.
The suspension on the car is quite possible the worst I've seen in years on a 'sports' car. The only thing that gives it any inclination of having a decent suspension is the 4 wheel drive, but even heavily modified WRX suspensions bore me. I've built full bread road race cars (GT1s, Trans Am Vettes, and a GT2), open wheel modifieds, FSAE cars, and national autox champion suspensions so I know what I'm doing and the 'best' WRX I've been in left a lot to be desired.
In all I find the WRX to be an overpriced econ-box that only offers to the US a 'tunable' turbo motor and all-wheel drive. If WRX owners want to rag on Z drivers fine with me, it's their opinions and I can accept that.

Hehe, you all complain about some wrx guys bad-mouthing your cars, then turn around and do the same thing. Well, since you all seem to base your opinions of quality on "one friend" or "I heard this on a board somewhere" consider this.
The WRX is proven to be mod-friendly and effective (there are a lot of 12 sec WRXs around and many faster).
We can drive our cars fast in virtually any condition, on any road.
They are reliable and the engines have proven very sturdy when properly tuned (they've been around for years overseas).
For a 4-cyl engine, there probably isn't a better sounding car out there. Add a different muffler and they can sound downright mean. By the way, the burbling sound is due to the flat four layout and unequal-length manifold.
Personally, I haven't seen significant results for reasonably priced modifications and tuning on the 350Z yet. I'm sure it will come, but it seems that Nissan did most of the work for you.
The Z turns heads, no doubt about it. Just be careful, because there are a lot of slightly modded WRXs out there that will show you their back side pretty easily! (yes at over 100mph too, as that is where you all seem to think performance is most important)
As far as LS350z's comments about WRXs being one of the "worst handling cars", I'd say it seems to be doing well in the USTCC. A WRX is regularly besting the field with surprisingly few drivetrain and suspension mods. BMW is the next closest competitor...
I've got over 37K miles on mine, a handful of mods and it runs great. No problems and everyone that I've given a ride has actually had good things to say about the interior and seats.
You've got nice cars, don't give yourselves a bad rep for ******* other cars--why bother?

If I were to get a WRX it would be a white wagon- front mount it (with a stealth black coating courtesy of swaintech) and then swap on a regular Imprezza hood, some JIC coils, volks, and a turbo upgrade. I would be happy but by then I would have spent almost as much as buying a new Z - so I went with the Z. Now if I could find a 2.5RS for a daily driver

Whoa there, USTCC is hardly a stock class car. Those things are very highly tuned. While motor mods are limited, suspension and chassis mods are virtually unlimited.
The winning car will be more a function of the best modded chassis and best driver, than the symbol on the hood.
Subaru has 472 series points, BMW 470. Also note that the WRX has factory-like support, Subaru of America, while every other team is compatively supported by a small time operation.
