Hi,

i have a little problem telling other people what color my car has. Because we in Germany have not only the most boring Z-color names, in case of my car's color (Silverstone / Z-Anthrazit) it's even wrong.

The correct german name "grau" (grey) also doesn't sound very thrilling, so I tend to use the US-version "Silverstone".

I also made a little comparison of the color names in some countries:

Now, because I'm a bit interested in the japanese language (for example I like to watch japanese movies in their original language, even if I only know 4 words), I was wondering what the colors of the Z's are called in their home country.

It would be very kind if someone (I know there is at least one japanese fellow in this forum) could write here the japanese color names in Romanji, together with an english translation, if there is a special meaning (like "Chilli Pepper" for "red").

Really? So it's just a phonetic transcription of english names.
At least at an japanese car I would have expected "real" japanese names.

Many different languages used another languages proper nouns or names when there are no equivilant names or words in their language.

Donde esta el "Walmart"?

Ich murchta zee "McDonalds" fur Midtag Essen.

"Kentucky Fried Chicken" wa O'kudisi.

It could be construed that the color names are considered proper names and might actually be pronouced phonetically within the existing speach and accents patterns of the japanese language.

Note that there are no "L"s in Sho Time's explanation. That is true about Japanese.

Although I'd say that Japanese has a particular penchant for using english words for things, even though they have the native words available.

e.g. (my translations)
super black == Makkuro?
burning red == Moetteru Akai?
orange is really always said 'orenji',

I spent a couple years living in Kansai, so my language knowledge is a little tainted (den NA!), but in general, it's "cool" to use the english equivalent. To the point that when I was learning Japanese, someone would be speaking and rip off a word I didn't understand so I'd whip out my dictionary, and they'd be like "No, that's english (engurish) isn't it?". Ah... another english word with japanese pronunciation. I swear, those were the hardest ones to learn.

The Z colors in Japan are "( )'=USA equivelant:

All of the colors are Katakana words, so if you went to a dealer in Japan you's just hear a fudged up English word like "Sansetto orenji" instead of Sunset Orange.

The colors for every model from every car manufacturer in Japan are primarily English based .. and perhaps a few (very few) based on other languages.

Japanese is basically not used ... because for the Japanese people .. it's boring and has no marketing sizzle or mystique when buying something.

Cars, refrigerators, ovens, interior colors, appliances -- any non-traditional Japanese item .. and the colors will most likely be based on English.
