Is this something that happens over time? Or is it apparent when the car is delivered?
Are certain colors more likely to have the orange peel problem?

Just use the "search" feature of the board. There have been many good discussions, facts, opinions, and photos, just in the last week about orange peel on the Z and all makes and models.

In general "orange peel" is more prevalent in metallic colors, but can happen with any color paint. Lighter colors tend not to show the effects as badly as darker colors. As already stated, it makes the surface of the paint appear to have an orange peel texture and is more prevalent viewed under reflected light.
