VaGentleman was kind enough to post this earlier in another thread. The site at this URL provided a way to decode VINs.

I've gone to the above site and tested several VINs that were listed in various posts at MY350Z.COM. I've only used VINs where the complete number was listed (including the serial number).

Almost all VINs come back with the Check Digit in the 9th place indicating that the VIN is INVALID! What gives?

Are people just not citing their exact VIN in this site (even in the Soup), because if you change one digit, such as the serial number even by one digit, it will come back as Invalid.

Can someone explain this?

Some people who give the full vin change an unimportant number in the first 10 digits to make the check digit invalid. No one can use it for any reason.
