differences in track model
I was looking at the Track model and the only difference I can see from the other models is Brembos, the little front spoiler, and some of the other luxuries of powered seats and other little things.
What I just wanted to know is what makes me want to pay 5000k more for the track model? can be luxury so it must be performance. What does the Track model have that I cant see? I asked some of the guys at the dealership and were unsure. If the gearing is different, can someone post the numbers?
thanks

The way I justified it is this: The rays engineering wheels are $1400 each at the dealer, you get the aero package which is $560 and what does a big brake kit cost now, at least $3000 for front and rear. That's about $9160 worth of parts, if you look at it that way.
As for performance, I think the times are a little better because of the lightweight wheels. It has a better drag coefficent and a little better braking distance with no fade.

really like the brakes and tire pressure monitoring system you get with the track.
however, living an area with ALOT of traffic, the stick (manual) only tranny for the track ruled it out for me. my last car (benz) was a stick, and i am NEVER owning another.
stick has great control, but a real pain in the a** when in traffic.
additionally, track model has no heated seats, no leather, and i am pretty sure no bose radio either.
touring was a better choice for me.
and with adding the nismo rims, exhaust, and cold air intake - i am sure my "loaded" touring will hang very nicely with the reduced weight track model.
whatever your choice - you can't go wrong, cause it's a Z!

I was considering a Performance or Track...
Compared to a Performance Model, with a Track:
You Lose
Power Heated Leather Seats
Bose Sound System (I hear that its not that great)
You Get
Cloth carbon fiber seats
-Weight Reduction
Base CD player
-Weight Reduction
Less noise dampening material
-Weight Reduction
Aero kit=chin & rear spoiler and underbody air diffusion panels
-Reduces drag & creates a 0-lift coefficient.
Brembo brakes
-Higher heat tolerances when driving on the track
-Looks better than stock when slapping on 19" or 20" rims
Rays Wheels
-Weight Reduction
-Stronger... I think?
-I'm told for performance they are tough to beat.
If you're planning to do a bunch of upgrades, your best bet is to get the enthusiast IMO. I got the Track cuz I wanted as much performance as possible without looking to the aftermarket.

I'm pretty sure you can't get the bose or the leather seats with the Performance model, only the Touring.
That's the same reason I bought the Track. Although I will eventually be getting some 19''s, but they will be Volks or RH, so I won't lose that much performance.

anything else in the gearing also?? or the clutch? I remembered someone saying there's no sub in the track?
Does anyone have info on the 35th anniversary besides the 19s and the yellow??

You must specify that is with Canada Models, the performance model here doesn't have those features only the Touring.

Good point westpak... I didn't realize that.
The sub comes with the Bose system only. As far as I know, everything else is the same... including gearing. But maybe that's just up here in Canada
The track edition can come with leather, the bose system is not as great as it sounds, a 10" sub can be less than $100, and in my opinion the Ray's wheels are the only stock wheels that look good on the Z. I have a track model and my best friend has an enthusiast also with the 6 speed and they were equally fast from stop light to stop light. The track edition also handles better with the bigger lighter wheels and the lower profile tires. Plus it comes with Brembo brakes. Come on...

The brake package and the wheels are clearly the most "marketable difference" in the track, and to upgrade those things in a different model will cost you easily 5K. Even if you decide to upgrade your track model's wheels/brakes, the resale value of the OEM parts will make up a good chunk of the investment. Try selling the stock 17 or even 18" wheels. Unless someone was in an accident and needs one or two, you'd have trouble giving them away. Brakes too.
How about us poor slobs that pre-ordered the track model before the final specs were out. It was rumored that the track model was going to have more HP and less weight than any of the other models. What a dissapointment when neither of those came true.
Coming from 2 prior Z32s the brakes were the first thing that were upgraded on both of those cars, and I didn't want to have to do it to my Z33, so the brembos were was a must.
Is it worth it? On the street probably not, but on the twisties or the track, its hard to argue.
