Default How can I get over 91 octane gas?

Hey just wondering how can I get more than a 91 octane gasoline? Well it is best to run higher than 91 octane with F/I right? Well do I have to buy an octane booster everytime I pump gas? By the way I live in Cali. There is never a 93 octane gas station around. And if I do have to get an octane booster, How much do I have to put in on a full tank?

93 is available at every gas station in NJ I don't remember the last time I saw 91 actually. Some stations here (sunoco) actually has 94 too

There's plenty of 93 in Texas. But if you dare brave doing it yourself, add a little paint thinner to your tank--but make sure you do the homework on the mixture first.

Don't worry Vegas only has 91 as well, but the 76 Stations have 100 octane for $4.29/gallon if you have DEEP pockets. Really, unless you want to buy boxes of octane booster at a time or spend $100.00 filling your tank you are stuck with 91 on a regular basis. I feel your pain. but California could be worse. At least you don't have 120 degree air going into your "cold air" filter to slow you down in the summer.

Unless Greddy recommends using a higher octane, I think that you will be fine with 91 octane.

Octane booster can increase your octane rating up to 5 points which may help you. "Super 104+" can be bought at your local auto store and it cost about $8.00 a bottle. One 16oz bottle is suppose to treat 16 gallons of gas.

I remember reading a Hot Rod Magazine article that did an octane shootout with various octane boosters and they were surprised with their results. They ran a variety of engine and gasoline combinations and their results were that octane booster did minimize detonations when compared to the unboosted gas but it also lowered power and performance when compared to unboosted gas.

In CA you can get 100 110 114 & 118 pump gas from various 76 stations. I'm not sure but I think 100 octane is going for about $7-$8 a gallon. Bring your credit card or apply for a payment plan because it going to cost you. Here's the link to find those Cali gems.

That's total BS! Small booster botles simply can not change octane level to any significant/noticable difference. I didn't really wasted time checking, but I guess you can always find on those booster bottles some fine print saying that it's UP TO 104. In advertisement
UP TO = SOME = A LITTLE
Which essentially means any number. Usually it can't be more than +0.2 - +0.5 for small bottle.

If you really want up your octane rating, use Toluene. Besides being octane booster for racing fuels, it also happens to be a paint thinner, so you can get it at paint stores at prices $10 to $10 per gallon. Gallon of toluene added to 8 gallons of 93 gas will give you 98 something octane. I used it for a racing day once, and it was noticable difference in engine response to the gas pedal.

Do search for Toluene to see details.

Last time I bought it, the 100 was about 4.50 a gallon. I only know of one place in San Jose that sells it here. I didn't see any place in sacremento that said they have it. The only place I have seen the higher stuff for sale is at race tracks (probably because it is only legal for off road use)

Be careful with the 110 and higher (even if you have the $$ for it) it is all LEADED and will damage your catalytic converter (if you still have one ) I don't know what other harmful effects leaded gas would have on your engine.

If you call Union 76 at 1-800-345-0076 they can tell you the nearest Union 76 to you that sells racing fuel.
