slap in the face from Toyota?
#21
Toyota should just wake up and bring back the Supra if they want to compete with the Z. It is always a rumor that the Supra is comming but it never happens... Nissan and Toyota should have never stopped making Twin Turbo Inline 6 motors. I wish my Z had an TT I6 in it........

ACK - I am soooo tired of reading about all of these car companies that come out, who all aspire to be tenths of a second quicker to 60, or on the 1/4, and then go out and say "Our cookie cutter is faster than the Z!!" (Subaru, Mitsu, now Toyota). And whats sad, is all of the above car companies make completely ***** rides, either in looks or power, or reliability/longevity.
A tacoma outhandle a Z? Never happen. Period.
Toyota, listen up: Make a goddamn sports car, not a lot full of cookie cutters that no one with performance in mind wants. Whats next? A turbo'd Camry? I could go on all day...
Maybe I'll take a **** later, and sell it on E-Bay by saying it does the 1/4 faster than the 350z! That should work...

How is the Tacoma cookie cutter?
http://pressroom.toyota.com/photo_li...coma-xrunner_r
BTW some of yall get awfully touchy about this.
Toyota claims that stock it will have 240HP and if you add the TRD SuperCharger you should arrive at 300HP. Now depending on weight, this could give the Z a good run, ubt I doubt it will beat a Z.
Not to mention, that article is the only one I could find that claimed it could take a Z. I don't see it anywhere else, and I think that article misquoted someone.
And the Tacoma has a skidpad of .9g. Not bad for a truck.
Now I am not into racing trucks, but it's funny to see how defensive some people get!

By 'outhandle' they must be referring to skid pad results only. If the 0.9g claim is correct, than that would indeed 'outhandle' the stock 350Z. But in reality...well...there's much more to a vehicle's handling than skid pad numbers alone, as any car afficionado knows.

I gotta be honest I am not sure how a truck with no weight in the back can get .9g. But thats the claim, and I believe it. But its gotta be VERY hard to launch a rear wheel drive truck with no weight in the back and 300HP.
I know a lot of the SRunner guys used to put sand bags in the bed for added grip.
But the standard 05 Tacoma sure looks nice.

Ok what about aero dynamics, give me an x runer tacoma or whatever and i will run it at willow spring with my brakes that re squeeking and m shocks with 14 thousand miles on theim that have withstood lots of beating and i'll still hand that truck its butt, even if it does have a freaking ruperchager . I think, thei'll have to almm it, put a full under body diffuser and everythin, oh and by the way its not a rear wheel drive truck, its 4 wheel drive, thats how it is suppes to have good handling, hehe, WATCH OUT!!!!
The all wheel drive is hwat the X stands for get it? aahah

No it is rear wheel drive, not all or 4 wheel drive.
The X is for the X shaped frame added for structural integrity. And the claim is not that it is faster or quicker, but that it has a better skidpad.
And given an S/C that could produce 300 hp (TRD is said to be developing one), the Tacoma could potentially be a good competitor for a Z (but not necessarily faster). Why is that so hard to accept? It would be about the same weight, and have a slightly more powerful motor... (with S/C of course).
YES I wish they would bring back the Supra, but why is everyone here SO upset about a fast Tacoma??

I know that Toyota is dropping the Celica too. It seems like Toyota is going with the better gas mileage cars rather than the powerful sport car.
Maybe Toyota is waiting to see if there is a market for a Supra again. They better not wait too long or it will be over again. The sport car time period only comes around every once in a while so they better hurry.

That X-Runner is actually pretty cool. My engineers saw it run at the Toyota proving grounds. They said it was very quick and handles well.
Even better, StopTech brakes will be a dealer option on that truck! They will be badged TRD, but all TRD brakes are manufactured by StopTech. I think the truck will do pretty well. I don't forsee it taking out any Z's on a roadcourse, but you do get a lot for your money, and that's clearly the slant of the ad.

I can believe it. The 350z handles like a pig. I don't see why it would be that hard to make a pickup truck handle better than it. I mean I can name 10 cars that cost under 30k that "handle" better than a 350z.

I am in the market for a new car. My main choice by far is the Z. The only other cars I can think of in the price/performance range of the Z are the Evo (ugh), and STI. What else is there? Please let me know so I can compare!

Yes, S2000, cant believe I left that one out.
That is the one serious contender that might win my dollar. But I still need to test drive, and I prefer the look of the 350Z.
Still, I cant think of 10 cars that can outhandle the Z for under 30k
