I feel the pain, going into the dealership here in Dallas on Tuesday...the shifting has gotten worse...I'm at 3300 miles. Anything over 5000rpm, for get it..you can't shift it. Hopefully since some of the same folks that dealt with Internetabyss are local this should get fixed. I'm not for sure, but I can imagine that if the specs on the clutch pressure plate are out of line for too long it could cause damage...but that's just my thoughts, dont know how precise that is.

I was down at my local Nissan dealer a couple days ago and they had 3 Z's on the lot ready to be sold. I was very tempted to get one right then and there. (black, silverstone, and brickyard) But then I remembered all the strange little things like this and I had to keep my wallet in my pocket.

Perhaps I'm just being a worry-wort. I'm sure all these little problems will be worked out eventually. <sigh>
I've been a member of audiworld since 11/99. I said the same thing to myself after watching S4 after S4 go down with blown turbos. I kept putting it off and putting it off until I finally leased another car for two years with an intention of picking up one of the last B5 S4s available after my lease was up. I waited too long and never got one. Now, obviously the Z's not coming to the end of it's model cycle like the B5 S4 did, but if the opportunity presents itself at a killer price, you might want to think about it.

Just like the S4 board, not everyone is having problems and those that are, scream (post) the loudest. You don't get many, "My car is fantastic today." posts around here, but we are out there. Besides the busted wheel which I'm replacing tomorrow on my car, it is FANTASTIC!

My car is fantastic today!

I test drove mine when I picked it up and it ran perfectly and continues to do so at 4500 miles. I do feel a positive engagement in the shifter, but it feels really good, not too hard to shift. At first I thought the complaints people had about shifting were just about the nice tight feel of the shift gate, but Josh's problem sounds really serious and I hope there aren't many more like that!

sounds like a synchros problem, I had it in my wifes Jetta 1.8T, adn some S2000s had some similar issues.

Don;t 350z's use the Getrag 6-speed manual transmission? If so, then it could be a syncro issue that Nissan/Getrag will definitely have to take a look at soon. I have a Getrag trans in my car as well. There is supposed to be a little bit of resistance when you go into gears to give you a good feel of shifting, etc, but it is not supposed to be hard to get into gear, and you are definitely supposed to be able to shift all the way up to redline. To me, it also sounds like a syncro issue, which is serious. Everyone who has the problem should be all over there dealer until the car is repaired. Otherwise, the problem will cost nightmares down the road.

Yes well the mechanic who looked at my car suggested it my be a synchro problem, i had no idea what he was talking about, be he seemed too. Im going to call up and have my place call internetabyss's place Bankston Lewisvill, and have them talk. That way maybe my dealer will wiseup a bit! This should quicken the process hopefully........

I think I can understand this problem even though I'd think of my shifter as normal, it has been very tight from the beginning, with gear whine that made it sound like a turbine. I thought it sounded kinda cool. I can see how some may see this as a problem, even if there was not a real problem. I've only had the Z for 3 weeks, but much of the whine has gone, and the shifts are much easier now. I was very suprised at how stiff the shifter was.

It may take 5-10,000 miles and 6 months to a year to really break in these shifters. Even though the throw is short, the shifter responds better to deliberate movements, especially when shifting into 3rd or 4th, the centering action takes a moment, then I move it into gear. Using this shifter does not come naturally, it may be an aquired skill that comes with time. I hope everybody's shifter problems work out well.

Sounds like the early production blues. Its not a shifter problem, its a tranny problem. Seems a certain percentage of these new 6 speeds have some synchro problems. Everyone will have to be patient and let Nissan work out the bugs. Its the gamble you take when you have to be "the first on your block"
I guess this also also once again confirms my opinion that honda/accura are the best manual tranny makers in my book. Does not mean I dont think the G35/350Z platform isn't wonderful. I do.

I drove another Z today, and 88 Shrio Special drove mine. They felt about the same, his was a little smoother. He says its in my head

Checked back with the service writer, he thumbed thorugh his appt. book, found my name and said "oh yeah,. we cant do anything until/if they come out with a tsb on it" I don't know if they ever called the tech line or not. Next step 1-800-Nissan1

Tight yes its supposed to be tight, but its not smooth, at all. I test drove a Honda S2000 with only a few miles on it. That had a very tight short shift. But a very smoooth tight shift. Thats what it should feel like. I hear like a double clicking sound every time i shift. Im trying not to drive the car much untill it gets fixed.

One simple thing people who are finding shifting difficult may want to check is that they are fully and quickly depressing the clutch pedal ALL the way to the floor. Some MT's are very sensitive to this (i.e.: the Z32)

I tell you what, then... I'll come over to you and take it off your hands. You shouldn't be stressing yourself out so much. It will be much better for your health to just let me take care of the car for you. You can even take mine if you want... the pics are at the link in my sig.

Hey, Slexis200. I've got a milano red 2000 Honda Civic Si VTEC 5 spd. for sale for less than 1/2 of the cost of your Z if you don't want it. (Check the Classified Ad section.) The Si shifts great. I'm sticking with my Z, though, and I've driven both.

Slexis, uhm, its a sports car, not a Volvo. You'd hate a Ferrari.

It will loosen up a msll amount after a couple thousand miles. I personally love the notchyness.
