Piece o' crap cupholder broke...
It always seemed to me that the cupholder in the dash was too complicated for the purpose it served. Well, yesterday, it became jammed when I tried to close it, sticking out about a half inch, and refusing to budge any further in. It still opens normally, but closing it is not possible. I haven't used it very much, and any time I have used it, it was normal use.
Makes me feel proud that American cupholding technology and engineering is still ahead of the Japanese

have you tried to figure out what's holding it up? It could be that it just got a little binded somewhere and needs to be coaxed back to the proper working order.

You need to analyze your cupholder with careful observation and discover why it's getting stuck not just "jiggled it, and tr[y] to jam it back in."
It's under warranty.

I'm gonna take it to my buddy down at NASA tomorrow. He designed the cupholders on the space shuttle, and if anyone can get to the bottom of this situation, he can. It's really annoying, because I've been having to take all my meals inside, rather than in my car like a normal person.

If I'm not wrong, every manufacturer advises the driver not to use the cup holder while the car in motion. But that's not the problem here, the cup holder assembly is not working.
Yeah, it should be under warranty.
Also, to tell you the truth, Nissan did make the cup holder thing a little more complicated.

My 2 cents
What we need is for someone to design a mod to get rid of that damn thing.
Honestly, how many people here are gonna use that cupholder, I could think of half a dozen things more useful to use that slide out drawer for. A few...
1: remold/wire another cigarette lighter there
2: remold/wire an additional power outlet there
3: remold a housing for a toggle (or multiples) switch for whatever trips your trigger (Nitrous, lights, horns, bells, whistles, you get the idea)
4: Stick a can of those spring snakes in there so when your next unsuspecting passenger opens it up they get a good suprise!
ok j/k on that last one, but I will definitly be looking into making that slide out way more functional than it is. The inside of my Z will never see food/drink, so what do I need it for anyway!

I use the cupholder everyday. I have a 12oz water bottle in there at all times. Then again, I live in California, and carrying around a water bottle is mandatory - part of our earthquake preparedness program I think.

I use it for my venti Coffee in the morning.. safely contained.. and for my cel phone in the afternoon.... I would like two side pockets just forward of my knee on the center console for my Nomad 3 40gig mp3 player and one for my cel so I dont have to use my cup holder for that...

I have a strick and firm policy.. that if there is a passenger in the car with me.. I NEVER use that in-dash drink holder..
Live with it and use it.. and your cup holder will last and last!!
