Glad you liked the picture. I have to admit that it's an extreme example of what our local group typically does. That photo was taken at a free, open track day last year with open passing. To be honest, the Porsche driver in that picture was kind enough to skillfully concede the line through the corner...but it still makes for a great picture!

The great majority of what our 350Z group does is very controlled, dedicated instruction and track time with well understood passing zones (only on straights...no corners contested.) We're actually having a 350Z-only, instructional track event this Friday at Pueblo Motorsports Park if you're interested. I don't know how far you are from Pueblo, but here's a link to the thread, just in case:

As for Time Trials, the local SCCA region started a new track-based (not Auto-X) Time Trials program this year. I don't know if they're planning on doing more next year, but it might be something to keep in mind for competitive, but not dangerous, track time.

Yea that was probably my car. I noticed you said you tracked your Volvo, it wasn't at a CGI event by any chance was it? My friend said he instructed a guy in a Volvo wagon.

Skrill... what's up with the blue tape? Is that to protect the paint from stones? I've signed up for racing school where I use my own car... thinking I should do something to protect the paint...

Yea my friend Greg said they asked him to help out during that event. He told me about how he drove a Volvo wagon, I thought he was joking around with me. Him and his dad are up there quite a bit during the summer.

Yeah -- have clear bra accross the front of the car. I just put the blue tape on places where I don't have clear bra and were tire muck tends to get tossed up on.

If you decide to do the tape -- just use 3M Painters Tape form Home Depot. Cheap and it comes off really easy leaving no residue.

What part of Florida do you live in? There's Daytona International Speedway, Sebring, Gainesville Raceway, and Homestead. If you live in northern Florida, you could drive up to Roebling Road Raceway in Georgia. There's an event near you almost every weekend.

I suggest checking out your local SCCA web site for an autocross or track schedule.

the joys of oversteer......... probably punched it too hard as he exited the corner..........
that is one of the reasons i love mid engined cars, you can start putting the power down as you exit a corner a lot sooner than front engined cars...... allowing you to carry more speed out of the corner and be faster on the straight........ its how i kept up with vette's, vipers, and a lot of other faster cars when i only had about 130 HP NA in the mr2 stock........ come in faster, exit faster, adn on short courses, the time you make up in the corners more than makes up for what the big dogs can do on the straights......... then when i was running 387 RWHP, they couldnt catch me on the corners, or the straights, usually no matter how long they were.... if i had my car properly set up, i could have almost twice the exit speed on any corner than they had. i would start accelerating right at and sometimes ever before (depending on the corner) the apex......
