Default 8 Mile Road Test after oil change & inspection?

Dropped off the Z last night at Regal Nissan for an Oil Change and to inspect the wear on my tires and brakes. It came back with an extra 8 miles on it. First of all, what the hell did they need to road test? And if they did need to do it, 8 miles seems like a lot. Is this normal? Or am I being paranoid?

When I change oil I don't see more then 1 mile difference. But since you did the inspection on the tires and breaks, that might be little different...

That isnt shi*t....

Years ago I had a Dodge Avenger tricked out (yeah an Avenger hah) , dropped, CF hood, nitrous, touchscreen tv, and just about every bolt on known to man. I brought it in under warranty to get the fog light relays replaced since I was in the neighborhood.

I came back hours later to find the car was gone. I heard someone screaming down the highway....it was the mechanics hanging out of the sunroof ***** TO THE WALL flying.

I got the car back COMPLETELY greased up inside and out with WELL over 100miles on it. Yes 100. Those ******** denied the entire thing. What am I stupid? I dont realize my car is COVERED in greasey handprints and has an extra 100miles with HALF as much gas in it? Not to mention I physically saw them with my eyes!

Rant over.

So what did you end up doing wadd3456? Did they clean it up and filled up your gas tank or anything like that?

This is total BS.

No ‘road test’ is necessary for an oil change. And as far as an inspection for ‘tire & brake wear’, a drive around the block is all that would be needed to test the brakes.

These clowns just want to joy ride in your Z. I would at the least speak to the Service Manager or the General manager and complain.

But to answer your question, no, it is not normal, no, you are not paranoid.

There was a thread similar to this about a year ago where someone took their Z in for an oil change and it came back with a bunch of miles. When confronted, the clowns said they always did ‘road test’ after a change.

Good luck

When I picked up my car for the feathering issue, I noticed that my car smelled of food, the seat was reclined alllllll the way back and the AC was turned on with the temperature set at Absolute Zero. I dropped the car off with the AC off and the temperature set at 75 degrees.

I immediately complained to the service manager and he was pissed (not at me). I want to give these guys a chance since they seem to be covering warranty issues without a fuss (my feathering and my deteriorating steering wheel).

Quite a few years back, I had a Dodge Stealth R/T with an intermittent ABS problem that I had trouble getting to occur in front of a mechanic. They asked if I could leave my car with them for a day or two so they could diagnose the problem. I came to find out afterwards that their troubleshooting included one of their 400 pound mechanics driving my car from the shop in VA to his home in Maryland two nights in a row for a grand total of just over 400 miles. Their reasoning was "we were trying to replicate the problem." In addition to not leaving me with as much gas as I started with, the mechanic got in the car with a screwdriver in his back pocket and ripped a hole in my leather seat.

On a subsequent trip to the same dealership (yes, young and stupid were in effect here), one of their lot hands drove my car into a ditch and packed about 15 pounds of grass and mud up into the bottom of my radiator. When I came to pick up the car, it was parked about 6 inches from the back of a van so that I couldn't see the damage. Once I drove the car off their property, they were more than willing to tell me that I did it after I took the car. My lawyer told me after talking with the dealership that they had six witnesses who would testify that the car was in perfect condition when I took it. I swore at that point to never again buy a Dodge, and I ended up trading the stealth in at that very same dealership for my second RX-7 TurboII, which was the best car I've ever owned.

Dealerships (with rare exception) are all crooked @$$-monkeys.

I dont think they went joy riding, although the service advisors are a-holes. They see so many 350Z's, that they prolly dont even care to drive them.

I know that I record each mile everytime I drop my car, somehow the technicians drive the vechiles just to make sure no leaks, sqeaks, or other issues might come up. I think the average mile they go is 5-15 miles. If it is more that 15 than a complain to the service manager. I only problem is that they can not roll back the miles.

I've read about some some people using engine management software that records all kinds of stuff about what your engine is doing, and keeps it all in a log. It seems like this would be a help; after a suspcious "test drive" you could just check the log, see what the engine has been doing for the last hour/day/whatever. You know that if it's been in for brakes, and the engine has been up to 3500rpms or 4500rps, ok, if it's been redlined a bunch, not ok.

Of course, I forgot what the software is called, and have no idea how much it costs. I suppose you would have to have a computer mounted in the car somewhere.

The most I have recorded them driving my car during an oil change was 3/4th's of a mile because they take the car around the dealership to warm everything up and then check the fluid levels.

Edit: The reason your car might of had extra mileage on it is for the to drive it and see how the brakes feel and listen for any road noise which is a common indication of the feathering.
