Then you haven't come across many BMW owners. That's an extreme generalization. I could fit 350z owners in Southern California into the same category that you placed BMW drivers. 350z owners............and gasp!...the Altima owners......... around here tend to be smug, immature, and downright unpleasant on the road. On the contrary, I've met quite a few guys off of 350zmotoring.com who are quite cool, along with the few close friends that I have who own 350z's. While driving my M3, it's impossible to count the many times I've been cruising along and found a Z dipping and dodging through traffic just to catch me, egg me on, and act silly...........almost like they have something to prove. I will grant you this.......there are alot of immature, spoiled, and/or arrogant (read: pompous) BMW & Mercedes owners, but they are the minority.

Outlaw, you make some very good points. On the BMW boards, many act like it's a crime to trade down (meaning....trade an expensive car for a cheaper one). They act like someone who has owned an M3 should never drive anything cheaper. It's silly, and it's a trait of the young & immature. By their example, I guess we must hold all those Ferrari and Porsche owners who trade their cars in for cheaper vehicles in contempt.

Well every BMW I have ever seen on the street thats not driven by a 65 year old or above, most definatly. Extreme it may be but Im just relaying my experiences in the real world, sorry if it conflicts with yours

 

Theres been many a time I've been minding my own buisiness, driving faster than the speed limit (not racing) and been pestered by a bmw on an ego trip, from the sedans to the Z3.

Not that it does'nt happen with other brands, but I'd rate BMW the most actively abusing on the road, Followed by the Audi crew and Ricers/mustangs.

I can only postulate that since they are in a higher income bracket, have some superiority issues with other people on the road (and in life) which brings them to the point of being pissed off if you even dare not get out of their way or insult them just being alive. whenever I see one on the road I make sure to pull over to the right and let them pass, its not worth inducing their egotistical wrath and getting a ticket or worse, maybe for their own protection

 

Seattle is alot different than So.Cal, and my Seattle experience suggests that people are more laid back there than they are here. However, I was only a visitor, so my view of their relative easiness could be incorrect. While driving my M3, I've never been bothered by any Audi whatsoever, and yes...I agree that the ricer/mustang crowd can get annoying. Honestly, I never have been hassled by another BMW driver unless they were driving an M3 and wanted to run, and in those cases I obliged. Most BMW drivers cruise along their merry way in my experience. On the contrary, yesterday I was in my G35, and this G35 sedan driver (with the obligatory girlfriend in the passenger seat) was acting like a complete idiot in attempts to "get ahead of me" or "facilitate some sort of competition". Also, not everybody who drives a BMW is in a higher income bracket. TRUST ME!

 

wow, you really have issues!!! i won't disagree with your personal experiences though. personally, i find minivan drivers to be a lot more angry on the road then anyone else.

 

this is hilarious..up to this time, I thought bmw owners were the *********... not us.... lol... But seriously, no one should generalize....that's the bottomline. It's just too bad those E46 owners have met some bad Z owners.

Although, not all BMW driver's are ********, just the ones with the short dicks. I personally wont go back to BMW until I am a lot older. I could never really bring myself to challenge another car that wasnt as expensive. I never wanted to look like a 21 year old trying to rub in I am driving a faster car. It sucked. I was screwed into running porsche's or firehawks and getting smoked or getting challenged by things that just couldnt hold up. It was win by a mile or lose by a mile every time .

I am hopeful with the Z though, once I get the APS TT, yea I can challenge whoever I want without having the, "Oh, hes a BMW driver," cloud above my head. Mwuahahah BMW's and Vette's beware. lol.

Oh well.... Nice cars, but overpriced IMO. And there are about as many E46 M3's as 350's in my area. I've won a few and I've lost a few. I'm not gonna beat a dead horse all over again, but it would apear at least in my "real world" experiences... Drivers Race. I don't give a **** about numbers on paper...

It's not really a driver's race. A driver's race would be an E46 and a C32..............G35 and a 330.........etc. A 350z vs M3 isn't really about driver's (so to speak). The car's aren't equal performers!!! Yes, if the M3 driver sucks and the 350 driver is good, the 350 could win, but it's not a testament to the attributes of the vehicles. I don't see how any of you can argue this point. It's for this reason that I think many people live in dreamland. To even argue that the 350z is as fast as an M3 is silly. On an autox course or drag strip the situation could vary depending on the layout of the track, or driver's at the tree, but the M3 is undeniably faster. There are no two ways around it. I've beaten a Porsche 911 turbo in a drag race, but that doesn't change the fact that the Porsche is undeniably faster. I just ran across a bad driver. I do give the Z props, and I do know that it's a great performing car, but it's not on an M3's level in stock form. Why can't some of you guys just admit it??? So if you out-drive a guy in a new Mustang Cobra, or a 911 Carrera 4, are you gonna tell me the Z is faster than those as well just because the driver sucked? I mean......guys, come on.

Well -- the Road and Track article linked in this thread seems to say that hustling the Z and M3 around Big Willow is basically a driver's race (the Z actually posted a better time).

Again -- I have owned both vehicles, and while I agree the M3 is faster in a straight line (rolling or standing) the Z can hustle around a track just as well due to it's weight advantage.

BTW, capoeira is kinda of lame as a martial art (although it looks pretty -- there is some in Ocean's Twelve). I remember when some Mestre Hulk (capoeira master) fought Mark Kerr (NCAA Wrestler, Pride Fighter, UFC fighter and general bad@ss). Kerr wiped the floor with the guy so bad that Hulk crawled from the ring like a coward. I used to wrestle, so I am partial to wrestling which has proven time and again to be the most potent martial art in a one on one fight.

Ummm, your slash at Capoeira is mostly unfounded. You know very little about it, except what you (and most others who are highly critical) have seen in demo rodas or in movies. I promise you, street capoeira is as brutal as anything you've ever seen. Of course, it's likely that you've never been to Brazil, nor seen full contact Capoeira at the Republica (a historical park in Brazil where dangerous street rodas occur), so this is probably over your head. These conversations run rampant on the martial arts forums, and frankly, I tire of them (regardless of the two arts being the discussed). Yeah, mestre Hulk's record isn't that great (and maybe he's just a weak mestre in the grand scheme of mestre's), however, there are plenty of Capoeira practitioners who fight in Vale Tudo and do very well against MMA, BJJ, and traditional arts. Even Jean Silva (and a few other known fighters on various levels) use their knowledge of Capoeira in the ring. Capoeira is NOT a ring art (for the most part), and just like with other arts, the rules limit what you can do in a sport atmosphere. One of our most prized methods of offense/defense......the cabecada (headbutt), isn't allowed. I'm not very familiar with the rules of such events because they don't interest me, but before you begin to criticize, spend some time around "real" Capoeira rodas, and "real" Capoeirista's who enjoy the fight.

When I see a Capoeira fighter defeat a fighter of the caliber of Wanderlei Silva, Fedor, or Randy Coutre ... I will take the form seriously. As far as I know ... Mestre Hulk is the only one to have a go at that level.
