Did you guys read the latest Car and Driver mag?

If you need to carry things in the back of a station wagon,
why not consider a Ford SVT truck or Dodge Hemi truck?
They both are super fast.
You are comparing a station wagon to a sports cars, so compare a station wagon to a truck.
Kinda similar.
Buy what ever your eye/heart/pocket can endure.

Isn't anyone else amazed that when compaired with a Subaru Impreza WRX, Nissan's new 350Z has identical performance numbers-5.4 seconds to 60, 14.1 through the quarter mile? Granted, the Z has 14 mph-higher top speed and grips a little harder, but I bet the WRX could kill the Nissan through a slalom. Althought the Z stopped shorter in your test than the WRX, it did have some expensive Brembos helping out. Not only does the WRX cost less, but it seats four in relative comfort and comes as a wagon. The new Z is bloated. The WRX gives up 60hp and 57 pound-feet of twist to the Nissan. With nearly 300 hp, the Z should be faster. Perhaps it's sharing too much platform with the Infiniti's G35?
There are a few other quotes bashing the car as well in the magazine. I was wondering what you guys thought of this. Personally I think a WRX(performance wise) is a much better investment than a 350Z especially considering alot of people are paying more than MSRP, which is an outrage, and you should be ashamed of yourself if you did.

Hey we can bash the wrx all you want, but hands down its a VERY well performing auto, and take VERY well to mods.. Yeah we can all say that the styling is not the nicest but some people love the look of it. but when it comes down to it the wrx is one of if not the best "bang for your buck" car in todays market...
Lets not bash a car or a very respectful company such as subaru cause some jerk in a mag hates the 350z....

For the love of God, this thread is two years old, let it die! The evoIII and the srt-4 are the new competition in town and even at that they still don't stack up to the Z in overall appearance, performance and style.

i know you guys want this thread to die but i just caught sight of it and read the whole thing and felt i had to post
as of right now i own a 2002 wrx, loved the car when i first bought it, sunk about 2 -3 grand in mods into it, it was ballsy fast but everytime i dropped it i was afraid the tranny was going to go boom. A lot of you say its an ugly car but i think its got some nice lines to it and i've gotten complimented on it many of times.
but heres the bottom line, right now the car sits in my driveway is driven everyday but its STOCK it had for sale signs on it but took those off to clean it and havn't put them back on. Why am i selling it, b/c its boring, i can't stand having an awd car theres just no excitement to it. What will i be buying in about 5 months, a used z b/c that was the car i was originally going to buy and didn't. now im going to because hands down i think the z is by far a better car than a wrx.

Ppl tend to always think performance is the only factor tat matters to what makes a "car" worthy. Sad. It takes a lot more than just 0-60 to create a "whole" car.
The WRX is oriented towards ppl who mainly love pure performance w/ the convenience of backseats and some cargo space sacraficing modern styling and comfort and what not. While looks are subjective, the general audience would agree the Z would put the WRX to shame.
Plus it's not fair to compare cars w/ two different styles of engines. One is n/a while the other is turbo. That's comparing crayfish to lobsters, lol. There's a reason why car mags and reviews compare cars of similar class. ( Z, S2k, RX8, etc ).
Both cars are great for what they're used for. I'm sure lots of Z owners wouldn't mind awd or more cargo space while WRX owners would definitely want a more luxurious interior and exterior modern styling. It's give and take. Coming onto this board putting down the Z is asking for a flaming as this board is filled w/ Z love. lol.

WRX is a nice car, good performance, lots of function, pretty ugly in the eyes of most (i liked the bug eyed one, i dont like the new style), and you can get them for like 23k, not too shabby. i wanted one when i was 16. i dont regret buying my Z, i think its awesome, i love it when everyone that drives by looks at it, i love the way it glows in the sunlight, i bought it because i wanted a sports car, if i just wanted to go fast, i probably would have bought an EVO.
My friend at work has a WRX. It's a nice car, but it just doesn't do anything for me. Its lines are too boxy and standard for me. It looks like a Volkswagen Rabbit (remember those) with a few after-market extras. And hey, if we wanted more seats we'd all buy a mini-van right?
sorry for not reading the full thread but just wanted to point out that for modding, i'm not 100% sure or anything but chances are you're not going to be able to make very big gains on the WRX or the similar lancer EVO because they already have turbos on them. I mean, maybe you can tear off the factory turbo and put a more agressive one on? Or start doing forged internals and try to crank up the boost?
The Z seems like it has much more tuning potential and doesn't even have a turbo already attached to it

But since Ford is giving the engine and power plant to SAAB, whats the point of owning a Scuby anymore.
Need I say SAAB STI edition for sema?

I dont care what those magazines say. You can get way more pussay with a Z than with a WRX.

Saab should improve the looks and interior quality...
