SLK350 vs 350ZR (IMO)
#21
The SLR is a visual abomination compared to the Carrera GT or even the SL55 for that matter. Techno aside, the appearance of the SLR is a major disappointment. The proportions are absurd. The "gills" behind the front fender are overdone. The F1 nose just leaves me cold. Granted, it's pedigree, exclusivity and performance are formidable. Nevertheless, I can honestly say that I would rather have an E55, SL55, CL600, Carrera GT, AMV8 or half a dozen other cars that fetch a lower MSRP.

you don't buy MB for their speed.. unless it's AMG

0 to 60 in 5.3, quarter in 13.8 according to Car and Driver. Chick car? I think not
I have to admit, if this car was out when I bought my Z, I would have seriously thought of saving up a bit more and looking into it.

New SLK does look like the SLR.. BUT WAY BETTER.
And the Carrera GT (I saw one in Newport Beach near Fashion Island) dominates the Enzo and the SLR in looks. It also comes in a real 6 speed manual!! That thing is sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.

umm...the SLK is still a chick car.
just remember...the SLK is mercedes' version of the Z4..also a chick car.
its the "im cruisin wit teh top down, but im not very fast and i dont know the difference." car.
kinda like if ur buying ur wife a mustang...get her the base..because GT, cobra, mach 1..she wont know the difference.. chick car.
EDIT: i dont trust car and driver, road and track is where it's at.
and its o-60 in 5.4 seconds. for 45 thousand...why not pick up a new corvette (if ur not a girly man.)

It's also quieter, has a hard-top convertable, better fit & finish and has more features & options, so I think the $9k premium over the 350Z vert is justified. (base 350Z touring vert is $37k, base SLK350 is $46k).
And as for the Vette vs. SLK, I'd choose the SLK becasue I've alreday owned a Vette and would want something different. That hardly makes me a girly man.

I admire the SLR for being a supercar, but amongst supercars it's nothing special. At the same auto show I saw the Carrera GT and the SLR...no contest (for me at least). Now would I turn either down if offered them free? probably not.

You guys are funny! As said before a Z is a Z and a Benz is Benz. I'm actually looking into either a ZR or the SLK350. I test drove the SLK. Pretty impressive. It does feels pretty cramped in there with the top up. As for the money, it is the biggest factor right now. Even though the difference between the 2 is not 20k, more like 8k. But would make a $500 or a $800 lease payment. I currently lease a 2004 530i (new model) and I hate it! The only reason I did not get the ZR then, was because I could not find a Nissan dealer in South Florida who was not charging anywhere from 5K to 7K over sticker.

Well I started this by stating that IMO the Z was better than the SLK, and then I started second guessing myself. After studying the brochure; the SLK seems to have a lot for the money. (The actual out the door different for me is $15,000, equipped as I would like the SLK). Today I retested the SLK and while it is a very nice car, the 350ZR is more fun to drive and does not have the wind buffing the SLK does. The stock radio can not be read with the top down and is very weak compared to the stock 350ZTR radio. The only thing the SLK has over the 350ZR is the hard top and a much bigger truck.

This is to mabeZorNot. Have you tried the dealers on the west cost of FL. I live in Naples and was able to get a dealer in Sarasota and one in Bradon to deal. Even the local dealer was "only" asking MSRP

saw a carrea GT at the porsche dealership over not to long ago. they sold a total of 10 GTs so far. each was sold for over 1 mil. hard to beleive i know. i too, with the looks fo the GT and new Lambos out with take them over the SLR.
but see the way i look at it is, the Lambo isnt really made for the masses either is porsche but benz is. so for benz to have a supercar worthy enough and pricey enough to run into super car leagues is pretty amazing concidering their overall line-up.

I have drove the car both ways. I have not tried the glass (costs extra 499). I think because you sit so low in the 350Z it decreases the wind noise to almost nothing.

That mag has issues.. ya 20K is just a bit of a difference, maybe car and driver will comapre a geo metro to a 350 isnt that about a 20K difference, whil the geo metro gets better gas millage and can hold 4 people the 350z has a bit more HP.. blah blah blah................
