Damn, I thought I'd be a young one getting mine at 22 or 23! (I say that b/c my birthday is in February and my dealer says expect it in Jan or Feb).

Certainly won't be my first purchase, but will be the first time I've financed a car. Well, congrats to you kiddos in your teens getting one of these babies. Just be sure to treat it with the respect it deserves. I don't want y'all to learn any lessons the hard way.

Well, I came somewhat close, but no cigar. I'm 24.

The Z: my first brand new car, and I've slaved my *** away for 2 years to get it.

Default do you really own it?

Can you legally own a Z under age 18 in CA? Is it titled in your name? Just asking to learn. In Tennessee you have to be 18 to own anything....

In California, you must be 18 to sign any legally-binding contract. So technically, all Z drivers under 18 do not hold the title to their cars. One reason why I would not let my parents sign for my car--I wanted it to be mine on paper, lol--I guess I'm possessive.

Default lucky f#@ks

While I'm not going to give the "when I was your age, I had to walk uphill through the snow" routine, I just hope you kids realize how lucky you are to have such a magnificant machine. I've worked really hard to get to where I am in my career, to be able to afford my Z. It's a great feeling of accomplishment to do it. Enjoy the Z, but be careful. My college roommate was lucky enough to have rich parents too. They bought him a 3000GT, which he wrecked at age 16. They replaced it with a 300ZX TT, which he also subsequently wrecked at age 17. He luckily survived these wrecks, but both were results of teenage stupidity. Anyway, respect the power of your Z!

Gawd I sound old...oh I'm only 26

I'm 23, and I just picked up my Z last wednesday. 23 seems to be a popular age for Z owners :-) I'm sure all you other recent grads can relate - it's a great feeling to finally be able to buy your dream car with your own earnings.
Regards,
Mika

Did we get an answer yet to "how the hell did you get a license at 15" ?

I guess not...

Well anyways, I'm 22, married, full time job, 2 cars (z and audi).

If you work, then there is no reason why you cannot afford a $30k car. It's not that expensive. Even if you finance like most of it, you pay around $600 /mo for 5 years. If you like cars, then you would prefer to spend a little more on your car and a little less on something else.

To 350zmania,

First off, I want to congratulate you for having access to "your" 350z. You are lucky indeed.

Secondly, the youngest Z owner here is my 5 week old daughter. She uses the driver's seat for her crib.

Let's be realistic. There was an old thread here where Ricky claimed to be the youngest owner. He never even came close to signing his name on the dotted line. I think it's something about not being able to get a 96 month financing.

There are relatively young people on this forum who actually OWN their Zs. They have their names on the title or registration, paying their own insurance. Free to do what they want with the car. That is ownership. Does this apply to you? I find it peculiar that they're the one's not crowing about being the youngest Z owner.

I don't mean to burst your bubble or enthusiasm. Enjoy the car nonetheless.

Actually you are correct - just got about 10 orders of "Sport Z" (sp.? ) and those have been keeping me very busy. Pretty cool mag BTW

i'm 20, might be 21 by the time i actually get the car (march 22),, i'm paying for the whole thing myself, first car i've payed for completely by myself, my first car (only car thus far) is a 94 toyota celica (used when i got it and car i learned in 5spd 110hp WOO) but anyways, i testdrove the 350z today, and wow, i've driven s2000's, and z3s and my buddies modified wrx, but this was completely different, i know i'm going to have to be VERY carful with this car for a long time until i get used to the power especially down low.

being 20, and having done MANY stupid things in the past, all i have to say is be careful and respect what you have, i didnt and i've been driving a 3 cyl celica for 2 years now (no thats not a factory option)

yes i've suffered, and i did deserve it, but i've worked my *** off and now i deserve this 350z

Owning a car and just using a car is totally different.

I bought my 350z when I was 20. I'm 21 year old and still waiting on my delivery. I'm paying more than half as down payment for my touring model all options. The rest is all paid later in one year.

Anyways, yes the title is in my name and yes everything is in my name. You gotta be in a situation when ur actually owning a car, not just using it or test driving it.

But nevertheless, enjoy the Z.

That's a good point, but there are people here like daytona350z who worked and paid the money for the car even though his parents signed for it. You can still have pride of ownership if your own money is in it.

Clearing up a lil bit of the 16 years old with a liscence restriction in CA:

During your first six months, you may not:

A. Drive with others under the age of 21 for the first six months since receiving your liscence.

B. You may not drive past MIDNIGHT (not curfew) for the first full year.

There ways of getting around the rules however. If you have a signed note from both parents regarding a carpool for your two teens as long as there is a contact number and both parent's liscence number. And also, if you play on a team at school, and you are a mode for transportation for others, as long as the Dean of the School or principle signs the note and verifies they need your help, you may transport others even under your restrictions.

Regarding youngest owners:

Technically( on paper) the youngest would be someone who is 18... I am 16 and im a Z "driver" I will say. My father and I both liked the Z when we saw it. It was also around the time when my sister was about to get driving too, so I had my first car for about 7 months, and then I got the Z so that "my dad and I could share." He has his own car, so yeah I am the only driver, but I figure it sounds less like a little ***** of a 16 year old to be driving a car that many more people more deservedly worked their *** off for. Hats off to all who drive this sheer pleasure of a car...we all have good taste
