Question Buy new Z or keep car that's failed smog -- Please HELP

I've got an amazing 1995 Altima that keeps pulling hard but now it's failed smog and I have to get it fixed or decide what to do.

Also, I have been seriously looking at getting a Z now, since it makes sense to get away from the Altima.

The alty has nearly 200,000 miles and can't be worth much, even though it has airbags, sunroof, upgraded stereo, speakers.

I applied for assistance from the Bureau of Auto Repair (CA) and they will pay some portion of the repair for the failed emissions, but I won't hear from them for another 5 weeks and my temporary registration expires at the end of November

I have to think quickly, and I want to get the most out of my Altima as far as trade-in or sale (it has to pass smog before sale)

There are some extremely intelligent people in here, and many know the scoops on trade-ins and general law.

What should I do? I have this month, and I need to get rolling now with financing and locating the car I want

Your not going to get much out of a nine year old car with 200 K miles...that fails smog.

Figure you get zippo for the Altima & figure out what it will take to buy the Z.

LOL

Thanks so far. I pretty much feel the same way, but I'd like to know what a few more feel, especially Cali residents

Here you can borrow my shotgun to put your altima out of its missery

If it was me i'd just sell it to a junkyard for whatever they would give me and scrap as much money as I can for a 350z... but thats just me

I think I'm going to get the car. Is 28,000 out-the-door a good price on 04 brand new enthusiast with no options? I'm pretty sure this is what I'm getting, also, I may be able to swing an 05 for slightly more, hmm

If its $28000 after tax and title I would say the deal is ok since a brand new one is about $28500+ tax+tiltle.
