I don't think this problem will ever go away unless Nissan decides to reduce the amount of negative camber on the front and switches from those Potenza tires. The 350Z is not the only car with issues with those tires. The other problem is people and service techs mistaking inner tire wear from negative camber as feathering which they are not the same thing. I am surprised they haven't changed Tire manufacturers with all the problems, they must have some kind of big contract.

I have 3100 miles on my 05. There are no tire issues at all, in
fact I have no problems with the car at all. It's a great driver.

04.5 w/ 12K and I think I'm coming down with the feathering. I'm noticing tire roar slowing down from the 30-15 mph range. Still have to look at the tires. Will be going to the dealer soon to have them check it out...will keep y'all informed.

One quick question for those that had feathering...Did you also notice tire roar at high speeds (~70 ish)? I swear my tires are making more noise at this speed than they were a few months ago.

Heard a rumour that the stub axle and lower control arms are new parts for 2005 models to eliminate feathering...

Yeah I heard from a post on the 350zmotoring site by Jason from Performance Nissan that there are new spindles and lower control arms on the '05s.

What pi$$es me off mostly about the issue is the fact that some dealers say that the problem was fixed in '04 and won't honor the TSB or supply new tires when obviously necessary, while others say "that's definitely feathering...we'll replace 'em for free". What gives? Do I have to be a member of the Stonecutters to get this issue properly resolved? Bastids...

I just had my tires replaced on my '04 on Tuesday. I had just over 10k miles and the car was just over 1 year old. I've been having the roar around 20mph for the last couple of months but I was holding out trying to get them replaced as long as possible since I knew I had until 12k miles to do it.

On Monday they were supposed to measure my tires so they could submit the claim for approval and apparently I qualified. It took some effort to get them to agree to do it, but eventually the service advisor agreed. I was told how the tires were backorded and I shouldn't expect new ones any time soon, but I was satisfied to know I would eventually get new tires. Apparently the stealership I go to claimed to have 8 Z's waiting to get new tires, but that same Monday they got 10 sets of replacement tires. (I'm guessing that Nissan stopped shipping more sets of tires sometime late last year and decided they weren't going to expense any more tire replacements for last year or at least for that quarter. That is pure speculation, but...)

If you are having a problem with your dealer replacing your tires on your '04 just tell them you KNOW they are doing replacements on '04s. You could also add that when you called Nissan North America they told you to tell your service advisor to file a warranty claim even though there isn't a TSB. When enough of us with '04s continue to complain to our dealers Nissan will put out a TSB to include the '04s and this will help everyone else.

can the mods pin this thread?

since knowing nissan..this may become an important issue in the coming months.

I hope the 05's have been relieved of this feathering problem..3 years later.. Im sure they got it right this year around..

time will tell

I just spent a day with the dealer and they had to eat the tire replacement costs on my 04 because NNA DENIED the claim. Here is a tip that I learned while on the phone with the regional rep last night, call on every problem before 1 year or 12,500 miles because then "Maybe we could have done something" BULLSH!T!!!

I don't think this should be pinned at the top. All it is doing is scaring potential Z owners away. There is no meaningful information in this thread. I mean look at the damn title. The title makes it look like the poster already has a 2005 Z and already has feathering. If you are basing your decision to get a Z on the feathering issue, then I recommend you pick another car. Even if your tires don't feather, they will wear quicker then you want, and another car selection might be better.

I have a 2005 with 1500 miles on it.

No feathering on the stock setup. I just installed 19" wheels with toyo tires, as well as Tein springs.

with this setup change the potential for feathering at all?

BUmp.

I find this thread very useful. I have been wanting a Z for 2 years now but have been reluctant due to the tranny and feathering problems.

I dont mind tires wearing out quick bc the tires can not be rotated. BUt I do mind them wearing out alot quicker and making road noise bc nissan can not fix the problem.

Is anyone else confused? Yet another person that probably won't buy a 350Z simply because of the "feathering" issue.
