VDC worth it?
I live in PA(Pittsburgh area), the Z will never see a winter but it will be driven in the rain. I am getting a new Z in April/May and am deciding between the Performance and the Enthusiast Models. The only difference between the two are 18" wheels and VDC and the invoices are $2000 different. I plan on changing the wheels and modding it a lot so it is pretty much down to, is it worth $2000 for VDC?
And if it isn't really needed NOW, I plan on going FI sometime down the road, would I neede VDC for that if not for N/A? I know a lot of you shut off TCL and VDC when you are racing but with FI for everyday driving?

I decided on Performance model. Here in Seattle it rains too much and I just want that piece of mind. You never know what might happen especially when you're tired and not as concentrated on the driving as you would be if you were rested. Most of the accidents that I read about on this forum (envolving spin-outs and loss of control) happened when people turned off TCS and/or VDC.
Yeah but you get traction control on the enthusiast. The VDC is where it brakes the engine and distributes braking and power and torque to and from the wheels, or so I am told. Would Traction Control be enough or would I need VDC? If you shut off VDC then you lose traction control. Same as if you shut of TCL in the Enthusiast.
Had 2003 Touring with VDC. Have 2004 Roadster without. I miss the VDC. On wet roads I have an issue with the rear end wanting to slide around when taking a tight corner. The VDC helps prevent this. IMO it is worth getting. As said above, it can be turned off, when you don't need it. It is just a nice piece of mind, and it does work quite well.

If the $ isn't that big of a deal for you then definitely go with the VDC.
With rain being so common here in Portland, I think it's been really helpful for me on occassion. But then again, I always get the slip/VDC/TCS terminology mixed up. But with all of them working together, I know they're helping.

Well, I found that the OEM tires (RE040) and the Pilots I used the second time around neither hold that well on rain.
Problem is most time you don't notice how worn out the tires are until you hit that one patch of wet on the road and you feel that wiggle on the rear, and right there you feel the car straigthen up and you breathe again.
I think is very worth it. You might not feel it every day, but it does its job when it is needed.
