350z emblem replacement
I just wondered if any of you guys out there had replaced the chrome 350z emblem (on the trunk) and what's the best way to do it. I recently broke part of the z off of mine when my wash mit caught it and now must replace it. The emblem is held in place by a sticky gray putty and I'm worried about getting this putty crap off without screwing up my paint. This forum has been a great source of help and I hope I can once again get some quality advice. Thanks.

I took mine off totally...
To me it looks better without it. Hairdryer helped soften the glue for me to remove. Came off pretty easly. the sticky stuff/glue did not stick or stain the paint. I just rolled off the remaining sticky stuff.
I hope this helps

That putty is actually a 3M tape, just really gooey. I just put mine back on my car after having the Vizage rear wing installed. I think the car looks a little plain without it.
You can do one of two things to get the remaining adhesive off. One is to buy some 3M adhesive remover. The other is to use Goo-gone or a little finger-nail polish remover. As usual, test in an inconspicuous area for color-fastness.
Incidentally, I just received my Courtesy Nissan "Z-Burger" for the back. The contour of my wing is a just slightly diffrent than that of the hatch, so I might have to get creative getting that thing to stick. Fortunately, the 3M tape I purchased to remount the 350Z emblem is just a tad thicker than the tape that came on the Z-burger, so if I have to replace it, I can and have a little more conforming adhesive.

slackjaw...Remember the roadster has no holes in the rear where as the coupe has 2 ****. The key is to warm the emblem first. Use masking tape around the emblem to avoid scratches. Use a fishing line and sort of "saw" and when doing so always pull upwards so you don't scratch the paint. After a while you could actually lift the emblem off with your fingers. The glue reside that is left can be taken off by using your fingers and roll the stuff off. Then I used Goo gone to clean it up 100%. This also was a good way to prep it up before placing the new emblem on. If you want to leave it shaved just apply some wax on the entire trunk area. If you want to add an emblem make sure the area is clean & dry and MARK your tape so it is centered correctly. Before you placed the new emblem on,(you could also add some drops of super glue to adhesive side..... hold with some hand pressure for several minutes and try not getting the car wet for several days afterwards. Most importantly...Take your time and do not rush the job. lol.
