Default Holy #%@. It's here!

It's true, I've been Z'd. Got the call yesterday morning while driving south to San Diego on business. I knew the car hit the port on Saturday, then it showed up on Mossy's inventory on Wednesday. I called the dealer straight away and said my car's in, let's do it. But they didn't know anything about it or even that their inventory could be viewed on line. After walking their fleet guy through the clicks necessary to view inventory, he offered to get the scoop and call me back. When he called yesterday, he'd been in contact with the carrier and specifically requested that my car be transported asap since his customer was going to be in San Diego anyway. Nice job Marco.

Happily, I've been driving a renta-POS since April. Dumped that at Enterprise right up the street from Mossy and was quickly deposited in front of my Z for my first drive. You know the theme from 2001 A Space Odessey? That's what played in my head. The car is gorgeous. Mossy had detailed it and filled the tank with gas. From there the formalities were quick and fairly painless and I was on my way home (75 miles).

Hoowah! This baby loves to run, goes exactly where you point it and stays there until told to move. I love it! Definitely worth the exquisite pain of waiting. Since plenty has already been posted about the car's general behavior and personality, I thought I'd throw out some observations about the "little things" that have been of some concern to board members...

Interior and exterior finish are first rate. Very little orange peel evident in the paint, and interior materials and fit are more than adequate. It's no Mercedes but you won't be embarrassed by it and you will like the contemporary look and classy sense of business-mixed-with-pleasure of the cockpit. Nav door isn't flimsy at all but does require "technique" to operate smoothly. Seats really grab you and hold you in and, for those bold enough to order it, the burnt orange leather will knock your socks off. Way cool.

Motor and trans are a nice pair. I got the 5AT because my drive is a ***** but the shifts are crisp, fast and frequent. I can't add much to the praise that's already been heaped on the motor except to say that it is very well deserved. Shiftomatic or whatever it's called also seems to work well but I haven't had a chance to wring it out yet.

No rattles from visor or passenger seatbelt. I thought I caught a sound like metal clanking somewhere in the dash but either I dreamed it or it went away. Cupholders in the console are utterly useless and the lifespan of the one on the passenger side is uncertain (looks complicated and potentially problematice but we'll see). Outward visibility isn't bad but the letterbox rear view takes a little getting used to and there is a significant blind spot on the drivers rear quarter so watch how you adjust your side mirror. Plenty of leg, hip and headroom so most drivers will fit comfortably.

The Blose is a mixed bag. The whole way home last night I was waiting for it go haywire but it never did. The soundtrack to Mortal Kombat - Annilhilation with volume at 19-20 sounded just great. Then, later while sitting in the car in the garage with motor off and listening to the radio, volume went through the roof and bass turned to mud. Same deal this a.m. -- even trying to listen to talk radio was nearly hopeless. Got to get the amp replaced.

Some have complained that the exhaust note is a little whimpy. Unless you've been driving a Viper, I think you'll like the Z. To me, it's a nice mix of that "ripping paper" sound you get from Ferrari, and a big block bass note with a "hot cam" rough edge. Bad in a good way.

I've had the car less than a day and have already received numerous smiles and thumbs-up, and was videotaped by a guy hanging out of an SUV. A steady stream of people have dropped by my office today to say "cool car". Keep a nose grease rag handy for wiping off the windows!

I'll be at Wheel Warehouse in the morning getting 18" Volk Racing GTC's mounted. Tint later this month, hardware my 8500, then somebody stick me with a fork because I'm done.

In short, this car is everything I expected and a bit more. You'll love yours when you get it. Thanks to all on this board who have helped get me through the long dry spell.
