Default 60 minutes

Anyone good at writing? I had contacted 60 minutes via email and they were somewhat interested but needed more details regarding the tire feathering issue. I do not have the knowledge to state my claims.

1) state the problem and how many are affected
2) what solution has nissan provided
3) has it solved the problem
4) how dangerous is this problem

If someone can do this it would be great to shine some light on this and wake nissan up to fully resolve this before our warranties expire. I would be glad to forward it on.

They probably won't do a story on it because:

1) People's lives aren't at stake

2) The public is being ripped off for millions of dollars

3) Nobody famous is involved.

This story is not sexy enough to draw viewers and that's all they're interested in.

Sad but true, unless someone had gotten into a car crash and died from the tires feathering, I doubt they would do a story on it.

I have been away from this board for a while, I bought an s2k, is tire feathering still an issue? I would really like to make the switch to the Z, I love the new yellow color, but not if they still have not solved the tire issues !!!

From what I've heard and read it was mostly an issue with 2003 Z's. And a few of the 2004's in the early production runs. Far as I know later 2004's and 2005's are fine. I only have 2000 miles on my 2004 so I can't really say, but so far the tires look x-lent.

While your tire may "look" excellent, that's not the first sign you'll see. Loud roar from the front wheel at low speeds and during braking is the dead giveaway.

my 2004 is fine, and so is everybodys that I have spoken to. I think that Nissan has fixed the problem.

60 Minutes wont do a story on the feathering, and thank God, that is all that we need is for one of our fellow Z owners to get the resale value of our car dropped.

I have a 2004 with massive feathering. So NO Nissan has not fixed the problem.

Nissan is telling my lawyer that they fixed the problem with the latest TSB. And we all know that is not true, because of the simple fact the feathering returns.

My 04 model has 3400 miles on it. Purchased in Oct. (I drive alot) but it is beginning to feather. I am waiting to see if it gets worse or not, but it is already starting to get just a little loud.

Default Hi Perf tires

For those of you with high performance, say Z rated, tires, don't you expect a minimal tire life anyway, which would take effect before any noticeable feathering? The tread on my P-Zeroes are shallow to start with, so does that mean my tires will show feathering in just a couple thousand miles? I have 2,000+ miles of some hard and fast street driving but I see no signs of feathering. I don't expect to keep these tires for 30,000 miles either. I expect tires like these, and the way I drive on them, will need to be replaced every 10-15,000 miles regardless.

man some of you should disgtinguish between feathering and fast tire wear. it would be moronic to say that performance tires wear out fast when the way they wear out is in question (feathering). the is a difference. those of us are complaining about the FEATHERING that we have. maybe some of you don't experience it but some of us do. go to another thread then if you think we are full of it and are complaining for no reason.

2004.5 ZR owner here with 8200 miles on the odo. The OEM tires are mounted on OEM 17" wheels. No feathering, no loud roar while braking from 40 MPH or less and still plenty of tread.

Previous Acura Legend coupe has gotten only 15,000 miles on a set of Falkens; best was about 25,000 miles on a set of Michelins. Before some of you were born, I have gotten about 20,000 miles on OEM Bridgestones mounted on first generation RX7.

Based on past experience, I purchased the Z with the expectation of replacing the tires between 15,000 and 20,000 miles. When they wear, I want to swap for 18" 245/275's...haven't decided on wheels.

Out of curiousity how many peope with 2004 are having feathering with stock rims/tires vs aftermarket rims/tires... Just Curious..

Also I did have the Nismo Type S Suspension and new Rims put on shortly after I bought the car, so that might have something to do with me not noticing any problems, as far as sound goes, my tires are very quite...

Hope you guys get your problem solved soon...

I am curious about this too + does anyone with an aftermarket suspension have feathering or is it only stock?

I have a 2004 with 25K miles on it. I havent noticed any unusual wear on the tires, but it has gotten louder (past 5k miles or so) when I slow down. I need to get the tires changed anyways, so I cant really tell if it's feathering or just worn out tires.

I have a minor in technical writing . . . although, I would have to agree with the prior post that this is unlikely to be dramatic enough for a news show.

While a major nuisance, it is not terribly dangerous. They want to report things like cars careening out of control due to the issue!

Done:

1) state the problem and how many are affected:

The problem is a combination of three things, aggressive suspension settings, soft OEM tires, and owners not getting the car aligned every 4 to 6 months like they should. This is causing "feathering" and more commonly simple inner tire wear issues for some owners.

2) what solution has nissan provided

Replacing tires for owners even if no alignment was ever performed from the time the car came off the lot. Providing a proper alignment for the owner once new tires are installed.

3) has it solved the problem

No. The owners still don't get alignments, the car still has aggressive suspension settings, and the Potenzas are still soft tires.

4) how dangerous is this problem

Not dangerous at all. Unless by way of the aggressive suspension settings and sticky rubber you use the car as a sports car and drive faster than you would in say a Maxima.
