thanks for seeing it everyone else's way (including executives/designers of all these automotive companies) and no longer living in a fantasy world.

I hope they don't bring them back, because if I get a 07, I will feel bad when they come out with a turbo version.

I doubt very seriously we will see a turboed Z, but just to be the devil's advocate didn't Nissan already make a twin turboed or SC version of the VQ and put it in a Murano. I seem to remember they ran it against a S2k. If they have already came up with a variant of the engine I see it as possible anyway. On second thought I just thought of another problem to turboing the Z. I can't imagine the insurance cost being any to friendly. Look at what we pay now and jack it up. In 93 I wanted a ZTT but at 27 years old and starting a career the cost was high. Dump the cost of insurance on top of that and I would have been working and living for a car. That's not a good way to survive and I think Nissan may be taking all of these arameters in mind. Just my .02

I already pay 280 a month for insurance what's another 20 or 30. Hell, if I get an STI my insurance will go down. I checked with my agent and it goes down 40 bucks.

What everyone seems to be forgetting here is that Nissan was in dire straights not too long ago. The decision to focus on one engine platform was one of the ways they dug themselves out of the hole they were in. They simply did not want to put the engineering into making a turbo VQ, when the company was focused on sales. Lets be realistic. Nissan wants to sell cars. Enthusiasts make a very small percentage of people who buy cars. They don't need to make a TT car in order to sell Z's. the GT-R is their flagship car, and its a hell of a machine. The STI and the Evo are flagship cars for those companies. The sales of those cars do not keep their comapny afloat.
Look at Toyota. They have become the 3rd largest car company, and they don't even have a sports car in their line up anymore. Until a car come out that really hurts sales of the Z, you will not see a higher performance version.

They aren't going to put a turbo into a Z, unless it is affordable to do so.

It's just not in line with the spirit and philosophy of the Z.

How is it affordable for Subaru to make the WRX and price it at around $24k? I do understand that the WRX is a 4 cylinder vs the Z's v6 but that shouldn't account for that much of a difference, does it?

Sorry, for the noob question .

who cares if its called a 350z or 370z.
the main thing is that its called a Z.
the engine size has changed from 240 to 260 to 280 to 300 to 350 already.
what makes 350 so sacred?

Very tue though I dont see Nissan putting as turbo in a Z ever. The 300ZXTT ran about $45,000 STARTING in 1996. Thats like $62,000 in todays dollars. Nissan doesnt have a market for that. To be honest Im surprised they are going thru with the GT-R. I love it but for $80,000 bas Ill pony up 10 more and grab a Porsche Turbo. And I just happened to see a Nissan Murano Turbo today. I didnt think about it till just now. First one I ever saw, well noticed I guess.

They don't make a turbo murano. A friend of mine does have a supercharged Xterra though.

That I have seen...was a one-off concept though.

Just to stir the pot:

BMW, a company that hasn't had a turbo motor for a lot longer than Nissan is about to launch their twin-turbo powered 1 series for approx. 35k.

Thank god , i hated that sh.t on my Skyline. We do have VDC, its a pretty advanced system, and its great that it can be put into OFF mode.

The Z's insurance quote is still cheaper than the S2000! I'm in the market for both and when i ran the quote, daaaaym!! what a turn off. Its like they think we're on crotch rockets with our life on the line or something!

IF the Z keeps the same size, it NISSAN will need to use less common materials to keep the relative weight or lower it, which drives the profit margin negatively, which means the Z will cost more.

If I were NISSAN I would to this:

Regualr Zs...
1. Lower the body size by 9% using common materials.
a. This lowers the nominal weight to ~ 3100 pounds allowing engine weight increases to compensate for the 3.8L (350hp)
2. Add the 3.8L N/A to all trim levels

RESULT: 8.8:1 weight to power ratio. an improvement over the current 11.4:1 ratio.

Specialty Zs...
1. Keep the previous mentioned reduced body size
2. Use less common (lighter) materials in that body size to reduce weight another 9%.
a. Giving the Z a ~2800lb chassis
3. Two trim options
a. 380Z RS - 3.8L N/A = 8:1 weight to power ratio
b. 380Z RSTT - Add the TT package from the GTR - 400HP = 7:1 ratio.

I disagree. About a year ago now, I was minding my own business at a gas station and some young punk rolls up in a very loud SRT-4. He gets out, looks at me, grins and says "yeah that Z is fast, but I bet I can beat it"....I calmly tell this douche..."hmm, yanno I bet you can, but I'll still look better than you losing, and you will still look 16 years old winning"

Nothing wrong with getting 'walked' by an ugly car, hell I think old muscle cars are ugly for the most part. My uncles Nova pushes 800 HP and he'd walk my Z in a heartbeat, and believe me I wouldnt feel bad in the least.
