I would say just given the fact that the new HR motor propels the Z to 60 in what...5.1 - 5.2 secs with a 13.2 - 13.3 quarter (given a good driver of course,) then even with just a 150lb weight reduction, you're definitely talking 12.9's and sub 5 second 0-60 times.

Scratch that, keep the current weight, (although we know it will be lighter,) and simply add the larger engine and you're still talking about times similar to the ones I just mentioned.

Now combine the two, and we're really talkin. Let alone if Nissan does put in a 3.8 or shave more weight than say 150 lbs.

Just my .02

Oh you can't afford the GTR, just buy the little brother, it's the same car without AWD and turbos!

Anyway, time will tell what is in store for the next gen Z.
Nissan using a VR38 for the next Z makes zero sense. They wouldn't detune an engine made for a turbo charged car, when they have a perfectly good VQ37VHR, to drop into whatever NA car they need. From a mass production standpoint, theres nothing an NA VR38 can do, that a VQ can't already do better. The VQ has a couple steps of technological evolution left, before its nearly maxed out. Direct Injection, and something to change lift/duration on the exhaust cam. Just those 2 things, and no changes to the 3.7L displacement should see the VQ very near the 400hp mark. And since all upgrades to the VQ trickle down to all models sharing the engine, production cost is still kept relatively low.

calculate using this , every 100 lbs lost is equivalent to roughly 9 hp and 7 tq or a tenth at the track

Couldnt agree with you more. Ive been saying the same thing forever. IF the new Z gets anything its gonna be the 3.7. No way they are taking the 3.8 GTR motor and de-tuning it. Imagine the Z with a hundred fewer pounds and 30 more HP. Sub 5 second run to 60....fun, fun, and I might add fun.

Well maybe it wont be a "VR" 38, but what about the 380RS (VQ38?). I know that the VQ37 is the most likely engine but I keep thinking about the rumor going around where some Nissan engineers said that the next generation Z will have some surprises. We can always dream that means the 350HP 3.8!

Does anyone have any information about the 380RS engine?
