Default Snip from Nissan Sport Magazine about the next Z

Page 18

What would redline be without some juicy rumor?

How's this: a 400z that's smaller and lighter than it's predecessor. And supposedly this is from the mouth of a Nissan engineer, who also commented that this was the car that he wanted to build in the first place. How credible is this rumor? Let's just say this source has never been wrong.... And maybe, just maybe the new Z is in addition to the rumored 240sx.

+1 The 3.8 VR (turbo or n/a) is too expensive to put in a mass-produced car like the Z. I remember reading an interview with one of the Z's designers about how there would be a surprise with the next Z. So yeah, 400z would be unexpected. I wonder how having such a large liter size per cylinder affects its ability to rev high, it's like a truck engine. Regardless, I think Nissan is doing a one-two punch with the Z and 240sx, which is the only segment missing...sup-compact sports car.

All Nissan has to do is figure out how to fit VVEL on the exhaust cams as well. An NA VR wouldn't be much better than a evolved VQ, except that maybe it would be better for turbo kits.

I went into theoretical detail on this thread

A 4.0L V6 or V8 in a smaller/lighter car? I talked about this in an earlier thread last year, and this would surprise a lot of people. Im wondering what kind of #'s this engine would produce.

Umm this was straight out of the magazine. And I just talked to DaveO the actual OWNER of the magazine (which has been a friend for 10 years) and that is all they can talk about at the moment. He said just like the article this guy is never wrong.

Actually there are five partners, or co-owners of Nissan Sport Magazine. As one of them, I can only say that our new Winter '08 issue is out and should be in mailboxes (for subscribers) and bookstores (Barnes & Noble, Borders and Hastilngs) shortly.

Rumors on the new Z car are exactly that- we try to differntiate fact from fiction when we report on an item like this. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that the new Z34 will be lighter and with more HP than the current product. Nissan is very good at raising the bar enough that owners of past models will sit up and take notice. Not only that, but you can bet they've benchmarked rival carmakers (Porsche, BMW) products and will come up with a car that will flat-out beat their more expensive rivals!

But again, I can only say that, for now, what we can report on the new Z are rumors. What is a fact is Nissan is busy launching the highest performance vehicle in their lineup and Nissan Sport has more pictures and content in the current issue about the GT-R. NO other magazine has offered more and better coverage of all things Nissan and we plan more of the same when the FACTS on the new Z become available!

I would like to see a TT version of the current G37 engine. A VQ37HRTT... That wouldn't be too far of a leap of logic, since the VQ37HR is apparently a pretty beefy engine and could handle a decent set of turbos without needing beefing up. Emissions would be the only problem, that, and the cost/complexity of a factory standard turbo.

These conflicting stories are definitely confusing.

We have one story that the next Z isn't coming out until 2011 without a 3.7

And we have another story that the Z is coming out in 2009 with a 3.7

Is it possible that Nissan made a last minute change? I know for a fact that a year ago people inside Nissan were being told that the next model was going to be the "370Z" to be out in 2009. Well I know at least one person was told that.

That story is backed up by another guy on here who supposedly knows a designer who says that the 370Z is coming out in 2009.

The other story seems just as reputable and has a nissan mag story that seems to back it up with a very reliable source.

I don't think that anybody would waste their time coming on here and making up stuff ( I hope not) so, why the two different stories?

Is Nissan messing with the competition to keep them guessing by misleading their own employees?

Are they talking about two different cars? Why do we have two stories? I don't know what to believe anymore.
