I bet the VQ37VVEL will incorporate direct injection for the new Z....
^ sadly but very likely true. Although the new and improved Nissan company has taken bold new steps in their design to increase revenue, they also seem to know when to play it safe and cash in on their past work - in this case, reusing the VQ37 in the next Z without further changes to the engine itself. I personally would like to see a better engine in the new Z than reusing the vq37, but thinking Nissan would add more money and use a different engine in the next Z is probably wishful thinking.
I wonder what they are going to do to the engine to make it different. I don't believe that Nissan will put the same 330hp version in the Z as they have in the G. Any Ideas what they will tweak to get a few more hp out of the Z engine?

The DI injectors are much harder to find replacements for, so FI will be MUCH harder to put together.

I was just making a point, of course Nissan isn't concerned about that, but it would be a bad thing for us...

Nissan co. is a marketing *****; even though their engineers are good, their marketing department sometimes seems better. They've changed numbers only on paper to differentiate the current Z and 1st gen Gc, I bet they are going to pull the same trick. G, 330hp, Z 337hp or somewhere in that line.

I think the HR was forced on to keep up the pressure on the outgoing Evo's and Sti's moreso than to put the icing on the cake of the vq35. Now with both bringing out new models with crazy torque, I think the 370z will once again be behind the 8-ball.
A fair few people (just read some new owners threads) bought the Z over the Evo's and Sti's due to styling (sacrificing the performance). Nissan really need to make sure the 370z looks just as sexy or sexier than the 350!

I still say it would be a dumb move on Nissan's part to invest in a technology like direct injection, especially given other more cost effective options like putting an exhaust system on that flows worth a damn.
Not to mention the more cars the motor goes in the easier it is on Nissan for warranty maintenance stuff.

TK
None are currently US bound. I don't think (if the new Z is for 09, and possible 2010) it will come with DI initially. Its possible, but the cars that have it are the economy cars. Its advantages are more with fuel economy than tuning for power.
That still a pretty good jump 337hp in a lighter car then the G37 that thing should fly DI or not, 337hp would make the present thought to be heavy 350Z break 5.0 so the 370z should be in the 4.9 r 4.8s 0-60 times or better. Not bad.
I had read something about 320-325hp so 337hp is great news.
