Wouldn't it be cool tho? To actually have the Z built, equipped and slated as a true sports car, rather then its normal tag and outfitting of an "affordable" sports car.

This would be the equivalent of Nike coming up with some special rubber that you could put in the sole of a shoe that allows you to run faster, but then only putting it into Chuck Taylors. What the Hell Nissan? What the Hell?
Oh and Nissan, if a V8 CUV is alright with your CAFE strategy, a lighter V8 sports coupe should be just fine.

It would already be cost effective given they are already building the combination. Obviously the most efficient way to rectify the situation would be to shoehorn a V8 into the Z, modify the weight distribution (battery in the trunk please) and tune the suspension for the V8. Get on it Nissan.
