I think the cayman s does the 1/4 in about 13.3ish secs? I think we can expect the 370z to be about 13.3ish secs too. But 13.3 may be too optimistic.
The new g37 sedan did 13.8 versus 13.7 for the g35 sedan. Car and driver says the new g37 sedan weighs 120 lbs more and the engine was green. Once the engine is broken in 13.6 may be possible or not.
I was kind of hoping the 370z would be to the competition what the gtr is to the competition but the z shares the same engine, platform, and transmission with the g37 but may weigh 500ish less. So if the g37 does about 13.8 i don't think dropping the weight of the car by 500ish is going to make the car a low 13 sec car.
Performance isn't everything to me so I'm still planning to get the z in early 2010.

I think the new Z will be high 12s. And, I think it will be to the competition what the GT-R is to its rivals.
To supercede your statement aznguy370z: Straight line performance isn't everything. I would expect the Z to out perform the current Cayman/Audi TT/BMW 135i and other rivals on a road course however.

the regular 350z beats the regular Cayman in tests. Its the Cayman S thats faster than teh regular 350z but slower than the Nismo 350z.
Just to clarify my thinking.
1. GTR/Vspec will do battle with the Turbo Porsches GT2/TT respectively.
2. 370z/Nismo Z does battle with the na Carreras/GT3 respectively.
3. The new rwd entry level coupe they are talking about[Silvia/240 replacement]? does battle with the Cayman/Cayman S.
Nissan would be terminal cancer on Porsches anus with that scenario. Wishful thinking

I'd say the new Silvia wouldn't keep up with a cayman, the way i see it is:
GTR & GT2/TT as you said
370z & GT3/Caymans
Silvia & Boxters
The only consumer Nissan won't win are the Badge-conscious.
I'd expect a new Silvia to have figures similar to the RX8 to be honest.

So the 370Z will battle against a $108,000/$80,000 dollar Porsche?
I'll be waiting for the response here...back on planet earth

and beating a caymanS on a road course is no easy task..the Z will have the definite power advantage, but Porsche suspension tuning, and brakes have been legendary for decades....
I dont see it .....
