I'm thinking of a ~12.9 1/4 mile time, give or take a second.

SO many are misinformed about the Zs weight; I saw on RS Sports Cars Forum people saying the Zs were 3500 pounds. Not sure where they got that from....
I think he was using Nissan's stated weight as a reference. According to Nissan, the 350Z has tipped at 3404 for the higher models and later years. It's not a lightweight sports car by any means.

I don't see the 370Z weighing in at anything less than 3200 lbs for their manufacture claimed weight.

Some of the one's that are too optimistic are going to be heart broken.

A well broken in 07-08 Z is already running very low 13's and imo is capable of running a 12.9 during great conditions, with an excellent driver and a well broken in HR. Time will tell if that happens, hopefully during my next trip to the track.

If the new Z makes 350 hp, or close to it, and weighs 150lbs less, mid 12's, with traps around 110. That would equate to low 13's or very high 12's with the mags.

The best run I have seen with the HR, in a magazine, is a 13.6, which is close to common. I can run that with crap gas and a bad launch, so I won't be heart broken when I see mags run low 13's with the new Z. There will be drivers here who will get it down about half a second.

Don't look at me though, I am struggling with keeping my 07, let alone getting a 2009.

350z looks better than the 335i imo..any sedan based sports coupe will look dated in time and so will the 335i..just look at the 330..350z(sports car) has a timeless design..just not a bmw fan, nice cars to drive but fugly imo.

Car and Driver Nov 08.
www.caranddriver.com/08lightning
Go there and read a little i could not find a post of the entire lap times only in my magazine.

Copyed a few lap times from the magazine

Cobalt SS 3:13.0/78.3
Lancer Evolution MR 3:13.3/78.2
BMW 135i 3:13.7/78.1
Honda S2000 CR 3:15.0/77.5
Subaru Impreza WRX STI 3:19.0/76

Any one else lose interest in what a Lancer Evolution or STI can do after seeing a Cobalt SS be faster than it?

My question would be is my Z gonna be faster than a cobalt SS or else im gonna be mad heheh.

Considering the 2006 350Z did it in 3.12.5, back in 2006, I don't think we have anything to worry about.

For some odd reason they wouldn't enter the 07-08 Z the next couple of years, even though a base or enthusiast would have qualified. I guess they knew the new model would have destroyed the competition so bad, they didn't want to bother.

What pisses me off the most is that the Nismo Z isnt entered in the last two Lightening Laps much less an HR Z. Pathetic. Its like they have forgotten the Z. For that matter where is the S2000 CR etc. The Z is still the LL2 segment killer as it even beat the Evolution MR that same test by 1 full second. How can you not bring back the champion to defend its title.

The current Z weighs 3200lbs, not 3300+. My Touring Z weighed 3245 stock.

Uhh, "where in the blue ***" did YOU get eight inches? It is anywhere between 4-5 inches shorter in length.

The correct answer is:

Cobalt SS > Evo X > Dodge Stratus > Matt Damon > 370Z > Oscar Meyer Weinermobile

Exactly. I'm using curb weights... not various track weights with this and that removed. It's easier to compare to other vehicles, using their manufacturer stated curb weights. Same reason the industry went to SAE ratings for HP, to make everything comparable.

Anyway, instead of pulling numbers out of your ****, I suggest people go HERE and get the weights right off of Nissan's website. As stated, it's not a lightweight car, ranging from 3320 -> 3398 pounds, depending on equipment and such... so say ~3350 on average.

Now, let's talk facts. The G35 sedan got upgraded to the G37 sedan, as we all probably know. Upon doing so, the sport model also got bigger brakes, probably the same or similar as to what will be on the 370Z. In this process, the 6MT sedan gained 83 pounds. Just from the engine and brake upgrade, as hardly anything else changed.

So I think it's a fair bet that no matter how much weight is carved off the Z, there will be another ~83 pounds put back on it, with the engine upgrade, a brake upgrade and better interior materials.

I know they are cutting out weight, but there's only so much to do by removing 4 inches from the frame... and, yes - it's only about 4 inches or so. They're not competing with some blue *** Mini.

Do the math, and you get about 3200 as a minimum weight, IMO. I hope I'm wrong, as weight is the enemy... but Nissan has hinted in the past it will lose close to 200 pounds. Not 400. And Nissan has been a little overzealous at times when talking about how light their cars will be. So we're looking at ~3200 for a curb weight.

I'm all for it weighing 3000... but I'm also realistic.

And as for the lightning lap, that's a good point. Some little po-dunk FRONT WHEEL DRIVE (!) 260HP Cobalt SS beat those other cars... wow. And what's the secret? Well, it weighs less than 3000 pounds for one thing, with a boatload of torque. Less weight and more torque, FTW.

I agree with you 100% i think if they added a 2007-2008 Z it would have dominated. I noticed the Z is left out of alot of these "compitition" type things, i just assume its becuase every one is tired of seeing the Z win. Its like a given so you dont include the car into the contest lol.

Nothing is being pulled out of anyone's ***. Nissan purposely overrated the weight of the Z. I, along with many others have ALL weighed the car and gotten the exact same number. It's not 3300lbs+, it's 3245lb for an 06 Touring Z (full tank of gas), bone stock. A few 03-05s weighed theirs and got 3190-3220.

I've long suspected Nissan is doing this on purpose in order to cater to the marketing of the 370Z and its weight. I have a feeling the car will weigh 3100 or 3200lbs and Nissan will boast how they've saved 200lbs off the car, when in reality it'll be only 100lbs or less.
