I've long suspected Nissan is doing this on purpose in order to cater to the marketing of the 370Z and its weight. I have a feeling the car will weigh 3100 or 3200lbs and Nissan will boast how they've saved 200lbs off the car, when in reality it'll be only 100lbs or less.
Funny. Car and Driver did a comparo test using a STOCK 2007 350Z and it weighed in at 3340 on the nose:

Data Sheet

The NISMO they tested weighed in at 3353:

For all the other things I don't like about C&D, I like that they actually do their own weights and stuff, and you can see the test sheet.

If it weighs 3100 GAME ON!! The GT-R is very heavy, yet it handles as if is weighs MUCH less. I would a s s u m e that even if this Z weighs 3100-3200, it will drive like it weighs MUCH less.

Again, if they are targeting the Cayman, it WILL either weigh 3000-3100 OR it will drive like and be as tossable as a 3000-3100 pound car. O.K. Nissan, don't let us down!!!!

He's right... but I'd rather have one hot girl than 4 scrubs with me in the car, and we know that ain't gonna happen in an Evo.

I love both the Evo and the Z. Im glad to see that a few on that Evo forum have given the Z its due as a track machine as it has bested the Evo at Vir by 1 full sec. Shorter, tighter track would have favored the AWD Evo.

I thought the Evo 9 was faster than the X around the track according to what Ive read a few places? I know the X is slower in acceleration from the numbers Ive seen in the mags. No guarantee the X will beat an HR Z around VIR. Would be a dog fight that could go either way imho. Which ever wins both are incredible track machines for the money. Id love to own a Do Luck widebody Evo 9 one day.

Goddamn optimistic. All that for $35k? That would be a steal if it were true. I won't be quite as optimistic...

Are your numbers what you think the average owner is going to be doing at the 1/4 with the 370z? Or do your numbers reflect the best a 370z can do? Reason I ask is that the HR has already accomplished those numbers while being heavier and with less hp than the 370z. I think the 12.7-12.8 @ 110mph or thereabout that was mentioned will be more indicative of what the 370z will do. Cant help but be faster than the 350 HR. Its all speculation on all our parts so no one is right or wrong

Might seem optimistic but consider the G37 sedan that was just tested WITH THE NEW 7 SPEED AUTO in Motortrend. It ran to 60 mph in 5 sec flat and cleared the quarter in 13.5 sec at 105.3mph Don't forget the new G weighs in at a hefty 3700+lbs.

Something tells me the auto Z might end up being faster.....

Remember that the HR G35/7's got a shorter Final Drive ratio to help with acceleration versus it's weight. I am not sure why the HR Z did not also get a shorter final drive. Although it is fun getting to 74MPH in second gear :-)

If the 370z also gets shorter FD gearing, it'll be very fast, but it'll probably retain the current FD. There's always the aftermarket....

+1. I agree.
I don't know of that many teens that have a $40k Evo X MR..or GSR if you want to put it that way.

I'd say that's spot on. It takes a lot to add a few mph or take a few tenths off the 1/4... and I think the weight is going to be more than many want to admit. People are assuming a weight of 3100 pounds, and that just isn't going to happen.

I would say these numbers represent realistic comparison/magazine/review times that we will see for the 370z...

I may as well put my best guess out there for future reference:

- 340HP, 275TQ, redline 7,600 RPM
- 3250 lbs
- 13.1 in the 1/4 @ 109
- 4.9 0-60
- Top Speed (governor limited) 159 mph
- .93 on the skidpad
- 19/26 MPG for 6MT, 20/27 for 7AT[/QUOTE]

I think acceleration of 7AT and 6MT will be practically the same, and maybe even slightly faster for the 7AT.

The final drive is really the key to all this, as far as acceleration vs. mpg.

Here's mine for the record. It is VERY close to most of the others:

- 340HP , 276TQ , Redline @ 7600 RPM
- 3100 - 3230 Lbs.
- 12.8 in the quarter @ 109
- 4.8 0-60
- Top speed of 165 mph
- .9+ g's on the skidpad
- 20/27 MPG for the 6MT , 21/28 for the 7AT

Its getting around that time of year where I have to buy a beater car for the winter; it's a pain in the *** here in VA, and sometimes I wish I didn't have to go through this non-sense, but would rather not drive a Z in winter. I had a time where I was seriously considering getting a more all season capable car, and the Evo X was at the top of the list (that and the VW R32). But I just can't see myself parting with my Z Thats also a factor in deciding if I will get a 370Z, whether I want to deal with winter driving.

Yeah, I saw that thread yesterday and was impressed by the respectful tone that a number of members there took in regards to the Z. It might go with the current demographic though: X being still relatively new, hasn't been attained by the high schoolers/ jackasses with the fanboi-nuthugging mentality, so therefore you get a more mature crowd... like how this forum used to be few years back

On that same token, once the new 370Z (my370z.com?) site kicks off, I predict the demograph will mostly favor the more mature group/ people who can afford the newer car.

Disclaimer: Of course you always have exceptions (Mommy/daddy bought, non-owners who join just to nut-hug, people who are asshats in general etc...

Quick Reply: How do you think it'll compare to the Evo X/335i
