I'm having a hard time understanding Nissan's design philosophy these days.
Until now, they've been taking their cars each generation and building on the previous design to create something more modern. Follow the lives of the Skyline (now GT-R) and the Z over the years, and you'll see that the design seems to be continually evolving (as it should).
Then, all of a sudden, they unveil that they've gone with a totally retro design for the 370Z... looks as much like a 1970s 240Z as it does a 350Z..
Why?

It's not really retro. The car is an evolution of the current 350z design which is obvious to see. What makes it appear to be a retro throw back is that they went back to having a short rear end and longer front end. The 350z was the only Z to not have this. The 350z was designed with the 240z in mind in the first place. So it's not surprising that by going back to the traditional Z shape that it looks like a retro 240z. This 370z is not retro. If they wanted to go retro it would look like some of the sketches and designs that people have posted in the past concerning a next gen retro Z. Personally I'm glad they went back to the longer nose-short butt design.
i think it looks awesome
Nissan is just following todays trend which is cars with a legacy going back to their roots with a new splash
very smart IMO, I will own a 370Z within 6 months of release

My Z isnt brand new anymore but doesnt mean I dont like the 370z. I'll probably gauk at the new ones and maybe test drive one but it will have to wait till I graduate at least. Thats why I try to mod my Z, renews interest every so often when I can afford it.
Its all in opinion. Some are Z enthusiasts from inception, some arent. Im on the fence with the loos and understand the deisgn. Ive had an 83 ZX and 300TT. I respect thier engineering and idea. Im on the fence with 370. If price, perforance are sound Ill FOLLOW through on the 370...
