Default Why does the 370z suck at 0-60?

I just watched this video on youtube and they say it goes from 0-60 in 5.1 sec.
So what, all that weight reduction and additional Hp doesn't amount to anything?
I'm pretty sure that the 07 and 08 Zs ran the same time. Also how come they are able to pull 26 more hp out of that 3.7L but only 2 more lbs-ft. or torque?

Motor Trend got a 0-60 in 4.7 and a 1/4 mile in 13.3.

Do 0-60 times really matter that much? I used to own an Austin Healey Sprite and I think it's 0-60 time was around 25 seconds. That car was a blast to drive. Balance is the key to having a fun car. I just don't understand the disappointment with the performance parameters of the 370Z.

I just like a pretty quick Z stock and I was hopping for a little more. 4.5 would be sweet stock. I would love to get it to 4 sec flat or just get a gtr and get 3.5 and better.

These times are published by sources that have proven time and time again that they are no where near talented.

Case in point? These same magazines have times posted for my car ranging from 13.7 to 14.0 in the 1/4 mile.

My car was 100% bone stock at the time and my first pass ever was at 3200DA and I ran a 13.4 @ 105mph on a 2.1 60ft... when I got the chance to run in good weather (-303ft DA) I went 13.1 @ 108mph on a 2.1 60ft. Then the Fiancee ran the car at 127ft DA and went 13.1 @ 105mph on a 1.99 60ft.

We are not even close to the talented drivers who hold records and I consider myself to be an average joe. These magazine times are good for getting an idea of what the car will do but they are no where near what the car is actually capable of.

Furthermore...reading that article you will see this... "3.5-liter Nismo 350Z we tested in 2007, which ran 4.9 and 13.5 at 103.9"... compare that to several members on this site...

1. Pat Bateman ---------------------07 Base 6spd 13.150@107.62mph 2.027 60ft
2. Veetec --------------------------07 Base 6spd 13.157@105.32mph 1.938 60ft
3. Peak350 -------------------------07 Enth 6spd 13.239@105.67mph 1.923 60ft

Just looking at those results and seeing other people posting up 4 tenths quicker... hmmm.. if that same mag runs 13.3 and someone on here can knock off 4 tenths..you are looking at least 13 flat (and sub 4.5 0-60 times).... who is to say this one won't have even more in it than the last one?

^ beats me! 0-60 is just for magazines and serves little purpose, i think magazines should have a full 1/4 timeslip to show their times, including temp , elevation blah blah

^ Half the time, mags don't even go to a drag strip. They use whatever testing equipment they have on an unprepped surface (as in non-drag strip, normal road).

Good point.. I guess i can't say all of them are not talented..their testing methods probably leave a lot on the table as well.

Are you really going to feel the .2 seconds you desired time of 4.5 seconds when compared to MT's 4.7??????

"I live my life 60 mph at a time" LOL!

Anything under 6 seconds in a quick car, under 5 very fast, under 4 is just ballistic.

Seriously, if you want to race in a straight line go get a v-8.

The Z is a sports car, not a muscle car or straight line drag.

I you care about 0-60 so much, just swap in a final drive that will allow 2nd gear to top out at 62mph. Voila...

Some 4.08's might do it.

I like a fast 0-60 too, but I love being able to go 74 MPH in 2nd gear in my HR Z. It's a blast merging onto a highway like that!
