I have loved the Z ever since I was a kid. The neighbors 240, a friend's 300, a stranger's 350. Loved them all and everyone inbetween. Always wanted one. After paying off my Titan early I could afford a car that was just for fun for the 1st time in my life. Never could afford one till the 2008 350Z. Would have had one sooner if I could have.
I like the 370. I would have one if I could. But I will always have a special place in my heart for my 1st Z(the 350). I will not try to argue that the 350 is a better car, but it is a better car for me. Love the looks, stare at it all the time. Love driving it.
At Walmart I found a little box of MatchBox type Z's that covered the 240, 300 and 350. Bought it and put them on a shelf. Stare at them from time to time while on the computer, like them all. Will get the 370 when it comes out (match box type). The 370 is a nice car, but I'd be more envious of the guy in the 240 or 300 I might see driving a nicely kept older version.

Exactly.

Not to mention, it's the same laws that affects Porsche when they manufacture a 300 pound lighter Cayman S, which has over twice the cargo space.

Or BMW when they make a 335i that's over 100 pounds lighter than a G37, but has the added weight of twin turbos, intercoolers, piping, etc.

And don't get me started on the GT-R...

Point is, that Nissan's engineering team has been slipping... and their cars are getting heavy. Weight is the enemy. And products from the sportiest Japanese car company are getting bloated.

The 350Z isn't iconic because it doesn't have twin-turbo or back side windows like the 240Z. Agreed, because those are what make cars iconic, of course.

Default This might be helpful to some.

I have not been able to be at a computer since Saturday due to an emergency trip to Florida. However, I was able to find this link http://www.370zcar.com/whats-new.html which gives a good idea of what is now included and what is missing on the new 370Z as heated mirrors. As with anything there is give and take when there are price restraints.

The 370Z improves on the 350Z. If you actually sit in a 370, you can see the lineage reflected in it's interior. It's a natural progression, no one can argue. To 350 owners, why would Nissan release a new Z that could be out-gunned by the older model? That wouldn't make sense.

So to both 350 owners and 370 owners: the 370 is a better performing can, and the 350 holds it's own in the family line. Everyone be cool, we all own Z cars.
Because they have done it before. 300zx TT vs 350Z. 300zx TT was faster than the 03-06 350Z. 07+ 350z was just as fast as the Z32 TT.

I could not agree more. I love Z's. I have owned 5 (82, 86, 91, 05, 09) and my college roommate had a 75. The ones I think are iconic are the very first ones - the 240Z and the 90-96 300ZXTT. Maybe the 370 or 350 will get there but I dunno.

I own a 91 300ZXTT that I simply will not sell. Its too awesome of a car. I like it better than any of the others I have owned.

I looked at my local wal-mart about 30 mins after I read this and had no luck

Default That throttle blip is NFG

the throttle auto blip really gets annoying when you drive around town. You really don't need to syncro match 98% of the time in normal street driving. The steering is family sedan numb. The "Brembo" style brakes have no feel. The car has no ***** when you punch it at high or low revs. I'm disappointed in the 370Z as was planning to buy one. Gonna pass till something else excites me better. Thinking 135I or 335 as more fun factor and driver feel. Might save for the GT-R if economy does not cash me out.

Well you could look at it this way...The 350z is the light that guided those new customers to Nissan back then. Just as the 370 is today. Everyone loves to see a new sports car debut.

Sports cars almost never carry a brand in any way. They ride on the backs of the bread and butter offerings.

You're both right.

A "halo" car is what gives a car brand excitement, such as the Z. It may not actually make much money. But it gets people interested in the brand, and they buy other vehicles from the brand, such as the Altima.

So the Z builds interest, and the Altima gets the profit.

Sometimes, you can have both things. Such as when the Infiniti G35 originally came out. It generated interest, but also was the sales/profit leader.

370z shares maxima platform, has same funky headlights as the maxima. It holds very little appeal to me.

Wow, this is the stupidest thing I ever heard; the lights on a car do not dictate a platform. Now crawl back under your rock.

Do some homework
370z has same chassis/platform as the new maxima.
The headlights on the 370z are the same as on the new maxima. Haven't you seen the new Maxima?

Ok my misguided friend... You need to do the homework. The New Maxima is built on Nissan's D-platform. It shares this platform with other FWD cars like the altima, murano, teana, etc... The 370Z on the other hand is built on Nissan's new E-platform. The 370Z shares this platform with other RWD vehicles including the Infiniti FX, EX, M, and both G sedan and coupe.

I've said it before and will probably end up saying it again, this forum is really one of the most uneducated I've been on. Full of people talking about things they know nothing about. I come here strictly for the laughs and I hope visitors to this forum don't take any info they get up here to be true...

The 370Z's headlights are similar to the Maxima's headlights but aren't close to being the same. 370Z's sit much higher on the front end than the Maximas and they have a different shape (more of a true boomerang) than the Maximas.

I guess you're more dense than I thought; the Maxima is FWD and share its platform with the Altima, Murano and Quest(not sure about this one).

The 370Z is RWD and share its platform with the Infiniti G35/37 and Infiniti FX.

Again, the resemblance in the headlight is just Nissan's new design language.

read up, the chassis and platform is the same, the only diff it is rear will drive, with different suspension. notice I do not through insults. I own 03 350, wanted 370 until I read up on how it is built. 370 has maxima chassis with diff suspension. Putting same design headlight on 370 as maxima was just dumb, besides ugly and hideous

Let me give you a hint; if suspension and traction are different, the platforms are different.

Yet you keep saying that you read that it's a shared platform; can you provide a link where it says that???
