Every new 370z I see on the lot is the Automatic?
Every new 370z I see on the lot is the Automatic? Well not every but it seems lke 70% of them are. Are they that good? I like the paddle shifters too, but I think that the manual especially with the sync match is the only way to go. Am I missing something?? I am really thinking I should of drove the automatic
Yup, I ran into the same issue back in 07 when I was thinking of trading my WRX for a 350z. I kid you not they had 26 350z's on the lot and only ONE was a manual. I tried to have them source the one I wanted and they couldn't find one in 500 miles. They said that the autos were more popular with sports cars now and days. Mainly people want to look the part but they want the convenience of the auto tranny. It's been said before that manual trannys wouldn't last much past 2010. Mind you that was back in the 90's but it seems that manuals are becoming less common every year that goes by
Had the same issue back in 2003. Had to go pretty damn far to find a manual in SS.
Three times out of four, I run into Automatic Z's in random parking lots. Not so much at an enthusiast meet. Just my observation.

The new 7sp is not the same animal as the old auto. 7sp, aggressively locking torque converter, blipped throttle on downshift, paddle shifters, faster shifts than you could achieve with a stick... it's just not the same.
I understand the manual bias. Before this 7sp appeared, I would never consider a sports car with a slush box. However, the new auto is just good. If you really need to connect with your car by grabbing a shifter, great, but that doesn't make the new auto inferior. Quite the opposite, really. Times change.

I don't think it's a matter of "that good", they just sell. When I bought my 07 new, it was the only manual one they had. The salesman said, that it's just easier to sell "Auto with manual option".

I think it comes with age, too. Right up into my 30's, every car I owned had to be a manual. But that slowly changed. I actually enjoy the auto now, just cruising around the countryside taking in the tunes. The Z isn't a car to drive in the snow and that's the only reason I would want a manual these days. But I don't live in snow country anymore either.
But all you younger folks still need to get it out of your system whether you know it or not so more power to you.

It seems like more teenagers these days dont know how to drive manual tranny's. I suspect it comes down to being lazy. I have taught for 28 years & the current group of HS students are as a whole more lazy than any group I have taught in the past.
