Every new 370z I see on the lot is the Automatic?
People buy automatics for a variety of reasons (I think)...I think a manual is far more fun to drive...better feel of the road...more in tune with the car. On the other hand, MANY automatics are faster than the manual versions (maybe not in the 350s/370s). The 5/6/7 speed autos with paddle shifters...are pretty nice and you never miss a gear...lol.
The new 7sp is not the same animal as the old auto. 7sp, aggressively locking torque converter, blipped throttle on downshift, paddle shifters, faster shifts than you could achieve with a stick... it's just not the same.
I understand the manual bias. Before this 7sp appeared, I would never consider a sports car with a slush box. However, the new auto is just good. If you really need to connect with your car by grabbing a shifter, great, but that doesn't make the new auto inferior. Quite the opposite, really. Times change.

Would you rather drive a race car yourself or have a professional racecar driver drive you around a track?
One is faster but the other is a lot more fun!
DSG's auto's SMG's etc...are and have been faster for quite some time. But if you're just trying to cover ground quickly, i dont see whats so bad about just taking an airplane.

BTW, i'm not ranting at you in particular 2bit, just at the world in general.
Disclaimer: i'm 26. I'm sure by the time i'm 40 i'll be rockin the slushbox. But for now, that thought seems sacreligous.
With the advance of technology, paddle-shifting/autos will be faster than manuals. The trannys can even rev-match for you now.
So, for those of us who still know how to operate 3 pedals and a stick, we shall carry this knowledge into the next generation of transmissions, knowing we possess the know-how of a soon-to-be extinct craft/practice.
I am also curious if anyone has had any experience with the auto transmission in manual mode trying to get a high rev launch that is similar to a MT. If the AT, while set to sport (paddle shifter mode), doesn't have a way to perform a higher RPM launch then that is one of the only reasons why I would be interested in a MT over the paddle shifting AT.
When you live in a hilly area of Los Angeles and have to deal with a lot of stop and go traffic on kinda steep grades you tend to get tired of a MT kinda quickly, mostly because douchebags like to stop as close as possible to your rear bumper.

It doesn't matter how nice an auto is, it's still an auto.

manuals are becoming a thing of the past now. Look at all the cars with manual modes now. Unfortunately, I have not driven a manual in 10 years. If I were to buy a 370Z now I'd definitely get manual, but I am afraid I'd grind the gears and suck *** so I would prefer the auto 7spd just so I do not have to risk it. And I know I could always just practice before I would even feel comfortable taking the car out. But I think it does not matter on who drives an auto or manual it's all about personnel preference, or convenience.

Every 370 at the lot I went to in Daytona was a standard...except one, in the show room.
Having onyl driven standard 2 times in my life at 24 I was very upset when I couldnt even test drive one while my 350 was in the shop.
no difference worth mentioning...its going to sound byist if I say the automatic is faster...do some searching youll find facts though.

They have 14 of them on the lot at Bob Moore Nissan here in OKC - and only two are manuals. One of the manuals has been in the showroom 3 months.
Another thing - they are all optioned up touring models.
