I traded off a 2006 350Z with 63k mi and modified suspension for a 2008 R32 with 7k mi. The AWD and comfort was the main reason due to a move to Indiana, but the asking price was a close 2nd.. $24k which was $9k below sticker.
Anyway.. the Z was great, but knowing I can go anywhere anytime is worth the tradeoff. The more I drive the R, the better it is. I've been on a lot of fun runs with it with the same group when I had my Z, all proper sports cars and the R stays with all of them, it does everything I want it to do.
The 2008 R32 was not what I bargained for as I assumed it was improved version of the 2004 car, it is not, but the comfort and GT feel is worth it. It helped knowing that the R32 is a regular vehicle seen on the Nuburgring.
There was a Sunday morning a few weeks ago that I woke up, saw that the weather was dreary to the Northwest and sunny Southeast, got the dog and the girlfriend and made an impromptu trip to the tail of the dragon. We left at 10am from Indy, got to the Fontana Dam by 5, and made it back by midnight. For a 14 hour unplanned *brisk* trip with the fam in a sports car to the dragon, it didn't feel like it.

To me, both body styles are very nice. Neither is ugly to me and both cars stand out on the road in a good way. Both will get compliments from guys and girls of all ages...
The 370z did come out after and does have its sense of refinement... There is plenty of people who still think the 300zx was the nicest Z, which also has a very nice design, But when you look at the interior and suspension you start seeing the refinement or where the newer cars show they are newer " improved " versions.. While many would argue both of these motors are a step back from the 300zx but in reality they are NA motors in stock form putting down the power a v6 TT did. While the aftermarket parts allowed the 300 to be faster, each Z has progressed in stock form in terms of power and speed.
The 350z interior is not the worst but it is definatly not as refined or " nice " as the 370z's interior... The 370z pulls better times around tracks when almost any magazine or driver tests it, its quicker down the 1/4 mile track too. There is an improvement, its not a step backwards...
Personaly tastes vary and everyone is entitled to their own views and thats why we all have the choice to buy whatever car we want.
Is the 370z worth trading in your 350z HR for ? When it comes with losing 10,000 , IMO no way, but is the 370z a better car, yes.
Zs are a classic car in sports car history and from my experiences there are a ton of 350z guys who just hate on the 370z.
I am a fan of all Z's ... Just recently I was coming home from the store when an older man prob mid 60s was in a convertible 350z, prob 05ish ... He followed me home just to ask me about my car.. Im 27 he is more than twice my age and was telling me how he has owned almost every Z and he is not sure if its smart for him at his age to buy the new Z .. But was in love with my car, followed me to my house got out , sat in it, and asked for a ride in it... He was telling me all about his Zs of the past and just generally loved the car for its heritage... that seems to be missing now a days.. its not a competition its about the love of cars for me, and I am def a fan of nissan and its Zs.
I hope that kind of thing isnt lost...

Excellent post chuck. I agree. People want more, and more, and more. Well if you want more go buy a mustang, a camaro, or an sti. You will not get too far in a Z power wise. At least now 370Z's are capable of running 12's with bolt ons. Before it took a fully built motor to hit the same times. I'm happy nowadays for that reason.
That and no matter where you look when you get into tracking a car an oil cooler is a must regardless.
