Default Radar detectors in Zs

Just got my Bel RX65 yesterday, and I figured the cord would be too short to reach the Nissan-genuis-enginerring with the AC plug all the way between the seats. It reaches, but it hangs across, rather annoying. Two questions:

1) What cord do you use that will reach and look nice so its not suspended across the cockpit, and where did you get it. Also, if you have a Bel product, can you use an aftermarket cord w/o the "SmartPlug"?

2) How difficult it was it to hard-wire your radar detector if you have done so? Where did you wire it in?

Thanks alot. I was going to post in the 350Z General Forum but it seems there is enough posting in this thread that it would get some responses.

Yeah I have seen that with the V1 before, Speedracer has the same setup.

Today I went out on a limb and attempted to stretch to cord out a bit. Actually stretched and stayed that way so it goes down the side of the center console, then between the seat and console up to the AC connection. Works fine and isn't obnoxious.

Yea, a guy named mike sells a bracket that goes on your rearview mirror. It's $20 shipped. You have to hardwire your detector to the electrochromatic rearview though. Hardwire's not too bad. You can either tape or just solder it, but I recommend the latter.

you can just plug it in the cigarette lighter by the passenger cupholder, if you don't want to hardwire it or anything.

Yeah, see, maybe you should learn about all different Z's first. Only the 06's have that, while the previous years did not.

I've been using my wife's Bel lately and I have the whole cord-dangling-through-cockpit thing going on as well. I've been thinking about straightening the cord as a first attempt and bettering the situation.

AnxiouZ thats exactly what I did. I was just driving along, and realized that its coiled. Originally I didn't think it would stretch out so I didn't even bother trying but once I did it works fine. I have it down the side of the radio/cd/etc and then between the seat and center console. Works well and isn't messy.

I just hardwired mine in tucking it in under the headliner and down the a pillar on the drivers side. I'm pretty tall though and the way I sit if I hung it under the mirror it would start to get in my field of view. So I put it to the right of the mirror and it works fine.

What length cord did you go with? I assume the shortest, but I just want to be sure.

haha, well then, I stand corrected and apologize for my douchebaggy comment earlier. I wasn't having a good day that day and little things were ticking me off. Well either way, he has an 03, which doesn't have those cig outlets.
