I'm looking out the window of my office right now to find a good reason (It overlooks the MB of Houston at Greenway Plaza).

I drooled over for SLK350 for a while, but it just didn't "sweep me off my feet" like my Ultra Yellow ZR did at first sight. Besides 350ZR is cheaper.

As an upgrade, I wouldn't stop you as long as it is AMG SLK55. If they had yellow, it may be a differnt story. I'm just a sucker for yellow / black automobile

Regular SLK350 seems like an over-priced alternative to me.

Only reason I can see in buying a SLK350

1) your a chick
2) your gay
3) your over 60 years old

One problem I've always had with convertiables is they always look like chicks cars or if your a guy, other people will think your gay driving one. The 350ZR was the first car that I've found that looks tough enough for a normal guy to drive without others thinking he's gay (not theres anything wrong with being gay).. But thats just my opinion on the subject...

I agree with you on base SLK350. It's kinda plain looking.

SLK MSRP= $45,500

ZR MSRP = $36,500

About $9K difference? If you can afford it and you like it, then go for it. Obviously they are meant for two different audiences.

Price must have dropped for 05? Or is this base price for a new ZR? I wish I had paid $36K.

Hey topdown, interesting body kit...
Definatly gives the Roadster a custom look....

The body cladding gives it a futuristic look...

I think I like it..

Well, that is the base MSRP without all the add-ons, like the 18" wheels, mudguards, etc. I paid around 38K and change for mine. It would be the same with the Mercedes, by the time you get the car you REALLY want you will be paying closer to $50K.

how about this; there's no such thing as a manual transmission in a Mercedes anymore.

I was a big fan of the old SLK when it debuted...the new SLK styling just seems to be trying too hard. The nose is ugly, the curved rear is a little overdone...overall my impression of the styling is that there are too many lines and seams on that car. As far as driving goes, the SLK350 is a HUGE improvement over the SLK320..but it is still not a sports car. It's meant to be a luxury tourer with some sporty features.

The Z is more of a sports car...but you give up some interior quality and a folding hardtop. You also give up a good chunk of money.

All depends on what you want, both are great cars.

Ok, after that last response, I think gvc4 has established that he is about 12 years old...

Ok back to the original topic... If you really like the SLK, I would definatly buy it. Who cares what other people think about it... It will definatly be more confortable to drive then the 350ZR.

I think your best bet is to test drive the SLK and see if it puts a bigger smile on your face then when you drive your 350ZR

I considered the SLK350 when I got my 05 Roadster but I found that the SLK is made for a short man or a woman and I am only 6’ but I was too tall for the car. I know that the SLK is supposed to be faster that the Z but my “butt” says the ZR is faster. Don’t forget the different in price! It cost much more to get the same level of goodies in SLK as you get in the Touring Roadster.

It was funny but when I thought about the SLK I wanted but every time I drove it (5 times) I just wanted to get out of the car! Not the Z on the other hand I never wanted to end the test drive and now that I own one I am ALWAYS looking for reasons to got for a drive!

PS the SLK has a much higher level of wind buffing than the Z!
