Default Do Not Drive This Car On Ice & Snow !

Unforcasted freak snow and instant freeze just before rush hour last night - the whole area was gridlocked with sheet ice covering most every road. 200+ accidents on the interstates.

The Z was diabolical. It took every skill I had to keep it on the road at speeds less than 25 MPH. Almost slid off an onramp and down an embankment while sitting dead still. Worst of all - I passed a white coupe stuffed backwards into a tree on the side of a level road and couldn't even stop to see if I could help. That hurt.

OK - This isn't news and certainly not unexpected, but believe me, it's a major surprise the first time you try to go through genuinely frozen winter conditions that you didn't anticipate.

It's winter in the East, brothers and sisters - keep your babies in the garage and drive whatever "appliance" you have.

Whew!!

Unfortuantely there are some members here who already posted their wrecked Z's from driving with the Summer OEM tires, hoping they could ice-skate with them.

Not gonna happen folks, invest in Snow tires or don't drive at all in the winter!

Glad to hear you are ok Beach Man!
Just reading your experience was chilling!

Mine is not Allowed to leave the garage on suspect days...
Thankfully I have other choices for such days (two 4 wheel).

97 Maxima (all options) - Pebble Beige
01 Pathfinder LE (all options) - Bronze
05 Toyota RAV4 Sport Version (Black/Silver Trim)

Be careful out there bud, more SNOW predicted for Sat/Sun.

my roommate's corolla is AWESOME in this snow right now...i'm kind of thinking bout taking the z out for a parking lot spin....lol

i actually just washed my rims this afternoon (yes, while it was snowing) to get all the salt off. a fellow z owner also joined me in washing his rims.

be safe everyone!

Glad to hear your okay! The Z needs to stay home at times when there is prediction of snow, even a dusting. We got hit with the clipper on Wednesday and I've seen maybe at least 7 Z's getting stuck. People need to take a day off or public transportation. Just some word of advice, let the Z stay at home its cheaper to take public trans, or maybe carpool.

Invested in four Pirelli 240 Snow Sport high performance winter tires from the tire-rack. Absolutely fantastic on ice and snow! Since it cost me $140 to mount and balance the snows, I looked on ebay and got an incredible deal on four brand new OEM 18' rims with Bridgestone RE 040 tires taken off a 2005 Cali owner's car who really pimped up his ride. Total cost with shipping to NJ $800.00.

tires absolutely make a big difference. the pirelli 240s stated above are good snow tires. anoher to consider is Blizzak LM 25. A lot of the M3 guys are running these

With good snow tires, the Z's balanced weight distribution actually makes for decent winter performance. It's really all in the tires.

If you have to drive in the snow you've got to get dedicated snow tires on all 4's. No matter what the cost of the snows it's cheaper than the alternative.

I bought my Z roadster over the Christmas holiday in '03. The roads in Minnesota were somewhat icy. Imagine my embarrassment when I couldn't get my brand new car up my own driveway! I had to back down and take another run at it. This winter it stays quietly in the garage awaiting spring.

I might get all season tires when the feathering occurs. However I don't know that I would ever drive it in winter. Too much salt on the roads. I want my ZR to last a long time.
