Nice bump.. I was wondering about this the other day again while sitting in traffic yet moving at 5 mph with the hot sun on my head....
SOMEONE MUST TRY THIS!!!
SOMEONE MUST TRY THIS!!!
It took me about 20 minutes to rewire the connections of the Roof Control Module (inside the roof storage area). No parts needed only one wire to cut (12V when brake)and power wire to split. (Can easily disconnected without to be noticed by dealer) Brake pedal depress is no longer necessary, however the second safety device is more difficult, the Control Module also has 2 signal input from the speedsensor (CAN wire- Hi & Lo), this will prevent function when car is moving faster than 5 km/hr. By cutting one of this this wires (or both), the top can be open & close at any speed but at the same time a fault code will stored in the memory (dealer will find out). I try to mislead the sensor, to move the speedlimit to approx 10 km/hr.
Hey thanks for being the first one (here) to try this. I don't fully understand your last point though. You said you are trying to mislead the sensor so you can drive up to 10 km/h? How did you do that?

Hi Maxpowers, now the top can be opened and close without depress the brake pedal, but the speed is limited to 5 km/hr. If exceed the 5 kms I have to let the roof button, reduce speed and press it again. It is functional in a traffic jam at rolling speed, but I want it better. The idea behind the 2 speedo input to the Roof Control Module is smart safety tought from Nissan, they are failsafe checking each other. The signals are coming from the speedosensor, modified to block signals. Once I manage to reduce one of these signal output by 50%, then the speed can doubled before the safety device kicks in. My objective is operation at max.15km/hr. (approx. 10 Mph.), to prevent the latches and anchors of the roof system from stress. It will not as easy as fitting a resistor in the wiring, I have to go deeper into this puzzle.

I often find myself wanting to put the top up while on the road.
Usually I just wait for a stop signal or pull over, but if I'm on the freeway in bumber to bumper trafic I would still like to to so.
I'm guessing you can still work the top up/down while your foot is barely on the brake.
I'll try it out today.

YEP, top will NOT activate till you are at a complete stop, the car knows you are moving it wont activate reagrdless if you have your foot on the brake until you are at 0 MPH
Keep you all informed about this project, now I don't need to hold down the brake pedal while open/ close the top, I' am ready for the next challenge.
First I try to eliminate the "standstill before operate" function, to increase safety speedlimit from 3 mph to 10 mph. (Two input signals Roof Operating Module), second is single push on button instead of hold down, with combined action of side windows up/ down.
I' am a lazy guy, soon I only have to unlatch the roof and touch the roof button once, my roof wil open/ close while the side windows will roll down/ up.
Keep you all informed about the progress.
Accoording to the pics the 06 model have auto function on both side windows, making the modification even more easy.
European Roadster, 05 Black- Orange "Net" seats, Manual trans, Rays, Nissan DVD-Nav.

The only thing that I can foresee being a problem is... what if you accidentally hit the OPEN button and it attempts to open all the way? It might screw up something important. Just a thought.
Thanks for the update!
What if you accidently tap the close button while you're driving with the top down and it starts going up. That could be really bad. You should make it so you have to hold the button for like...3 seconds or something before it goes, then you can release it.
Have found sometime to puzzle it all out. Basic function is to open and close top, without holding the brake pedal (at rolling speed). Mission accomplished, how I did it ?
I cut the Pink/ Blue wire at the Soft Top Control Unit (Port 38), this is 12V power supply to the Soft Top Control unit when brake pedal depressed.
Tape the end of the cutted wire, no fuction any more.
Next is to split GREEN wire (Port 17) which is 12V at Ignition ON and/or START.
Connect the spliced wire to port 38. This is the job.
Next challenge is roof operation (open/close) with max. speed 10 to 15 mph. combined function "one touch button only" to OPEN the roof and side windows rolling down.
No safety device necessary for accidently touching the button, since you have to manually UNLATCH the roof. Besides at speed more than 15 mph the system will not function to prevent hinge overload anyway.
The CLOSING function is pretty much the same in reverse, however accidently CLOSING the roof can be prevented by "twice click button within 1.0 second" function.
I'am preparing wired proto switch board with relays for try outs, later stage I will make PCB to try out in my car. Keep you informed.

Nice job! I decided to wait for my warranty to run out before doing this but now you have got me thinking...
Is the purpose of the "green wire mod" to allow the top to go down below 5mph?

Originally you broke it up into three pieces...
1.) don't need to hold down the brake pedal while open/ close the top
2.) eliminate the "standstill before operate" function, to increase safety speedlimit from 3 mph to 10 mph. (Two input signals Roof Operating Module)
3.) single push on button instead of hold down, with combined action of side windows up/ down.
And said,
"Accoording to the pics the 06 model have auto function on both side windows, making the modification even more easy."
It sounds like your mod you just detailed is the solution for #1. But it sounds like the mod didn't take care of #2, right? Personally, I'm going to wait for #2 also.
By the way, I think my 2004.5 has what you said the '06 seems to have, an auto window up/down on both side windows.
Thanks for the update!

That's just not right! It dosn't take that long.
