Default Stock spoiler on Roadster?

I'm having the factory spoiler put on my roadster next week and am curious how the install went for you guys that did this. I searched the forum for info on this and came up with posts when the roadster came out a few years ago. I read things that although the back end of the roadster is slightly different than the coupe, the spoiler goes on fine, though caution is needed if you want a perfect fit. Also, how is it attached? Tape only or tape and screws? Seems that some screws would be more secure but I'm not too fond of the idea of drilling holes in the trunk.

Thanks!

It was my understanding that the factory spoiler would NOT fit a roadster. I got mine from Spoilerdepot.com. It looks like the factory spoiler but custom fit for the back of a Z Roadster.

I second that ZBoater. My stock spoiler of my ss coupe would not fit my ss roadster. I'm sure you could "make it fit," but there may still be gaps. The angle of the trunk is different between the two models (as you know) and the gaps were about 1/4 inch in some places. If you purchased this from the dealer and are having the dealer install (time and money), you may want to consider returning and purchasing the roadster spoiler from spoilerdepot.com. Less frustration, quality product and a guaranteed fit.

I "third" zboater... I also got the spoiler from spoilerdepot.com.. it came fitted rather nicely. I did have to play with the positioning before getting the spoiler to sit perfect.. it came with 3m tape which was all i used. I added weights on top of the spoiler overnight just so the tape sets. So far so good.. n it looks pretty neat on the roadster

Yes roadster owners, please put the OEM lip spoiler on your Z!

It looks good!

Without it, our cars fit into the description of how people describe the 350: "A squatting toad takin a crap"

Roadster doesnt' come with OEM spoiler. You have to buy aftermarket.

Thanks but I was fully aware of that. I meant the Coupe OEM Spoiler.

You have a sweet DB roadster btw.

Here's a thread with a roadster and the OEM spoiler. There are pics in here as well. I tried to put links to the pics as well. Either way, you can see them and I think the OEM spoiler looks great on the roadster. Just enough to add what's missing on the rear. Zboater, you're ride looks great too!!

I checked out spoilerdepot.com and it's a pretty reasonable price for the custom 350ZR spoiler. I always wanted one and now I really want to get it. I have a PPW and I was going to have them paint it. Is there a distinction in color between the factory paint and the spoiler on a PPW? I know the PPW is hard to match.

One more thing, I noticed that the spoiler is attached with 3M tape. Is that really strong enoug?. No bold on needed? Can someone please confirm. I don't want to be driving 115 mph and my spoiler flies off.

Thanks in advance.

Many have been able to 3m the OEM lip spoiler on the coupes. I don't see why it'd be that different for the ZR if the custom one is shaped to the trunk.

The grey/redbacking 3m automotive tape is REALLY strong if adhered right. For me to remove my spoiler, I would have to sit there for an hour with a heatgun and dental floss.

I can travel at lightspeed and it still won't come off, I'd imagine the downforce would compress the spoiler against the trunk even more.

The first time I placed the spoiler, I put in on crooked. I had to take it out.

TRUST ME. That 3M tape is very strong.

Thanks for the confirmation guys about the 3M tape on spoiler. Now, what about the color of the spoiler. Did it match exactly your stock color? I have a PPW and want to make sure.

How do you line it up? Does it come with some sort of paper templete or something? I would end up putting it on crooked or something.

No offense guys, but superblack is the EASIEST color to match in the whole Z line. Not too many ways to mess it up.

I'd be a little concerned if you had: Silverstone, CS, PP White, Lemans, and Daytona. Emphasis on the Silverstone!

Just a different amount in flakes can make a noticeable difference in shades.

Yes, but that is true of anywhere you get a spoiler from. If you get it, and it doesnt match, you return it. Easy! Bubble's Z is Daytona Blue, and it also matched fine.

No, it doesnt come with a template, and yes, it sucks the BIG ONE to put in on crooked. I know from PERSONAL experience.

On my second attempt, I placed the spoiler on the car and marked the spot with painter's masking tape (the blue kind). You have to play with it a bit to find the best spot for the best fit. I also used a tape measure to make sure. Once I marked the spot on all 4 sides with tape, it was a MUCH easier install.

Color match - The Silverstone Spoiler from Spoilerdepot.com matched perfectly.
