Default Trade in 05 for an 06???

Just wanted to get everyone's opinion about trading in a 05 for an 06. Do you think it is a good idea and how much would I lose in this deal? I bought my PPW 350ZR Touring in Feb. 05. It has roughly 7500 miles and in excellent condition. I payed 38500 OTD and I figure I could get around 34500 if I sell to private party.

I like the minor changes for the 06 and everytime I see it, it pisses me off that the changes were not implemented in 05. Some people don't see much difference but people who know cars know the difference. I would opt for a Touring and maybe even the stock 19" rims.

Just to get input, is this worth it or am I being ridiculous?

Personally I wouldn't do it. Instead, why don't you wait and see if you could upgrade some of the parts (i.e., wheels since some people will opt to sell them anyways, headlights, taillights)? Don't know if that would be cost effective, but that way you could change over only the parts you like (for example, I would keep the 05 front bumper since all the lips are made for 03-05s).

Ultimately it would be your decision.

If you can actually get that much for your car, then it's worth it. It would cost at least double what your loosing to make all the changes.

If you trade in your 05 you will get between $27,000-$30,000 don't waste you money for cosmetic looks as well as a couple of HP increase. It's the same Z! If they have done a major change to the exterior and other stuff why not.

If you're completely dissatisfied with the 05 Touring then go for the 06 (if you don't care about losing $). Personally I'd wait a bit for more 06's to enter the market so that the dealer will be more flexible on the price.

If money is not a concern, change one as you please. I would wait for a major change to the car before trading, like TT, body and style change.

The trade is going to set you back the cost of the new car plus about a $6,000 loss on the old car

for the money lost on trade you could do a long list of upgrades that would put you both cosmetically and mechanically ahead of the stock 06. unless you are doing something like going from manual to auto or vice versa, or coupe to convertible or vice versa, you are throwing a lot of dollars away that could be put to better use.

besides, the 06 represents the mid-to-late life cycle freshening before its replacement debuts. The G35 is new from ground up in model year 07. Can the Z be far behind?

That's a good point. Yeah, I was thinking if I didn't trade for an 06 I would get sway bars, 19" rims, springs to start. All those mods won't start until next year though.

On another note: G35 is changing in 07? I read on one of these posts that the Z will change in 09. I don't know if this is confirmed though. Hopefully, the Z will last until 09.

I have thought about the same thing. When you do the math it isn't worth it. I am going to swap out the tail lights that about all.

I would wait till a total redesign before I make any big moves.

It really depends on what the final numbers look like once you have a buyer for your current Z and a firm price on what a dealership will sell you the 2006 model for. I swapped a 2004 LS Enthusiast Roadster for a 2005 PPW Touring Roadster back in February because everything aligned to make it a good deal. Your mileage may vary.
