Not scared, when you buy a car like this things are expensive. If my top rips after warranty, I will buy a new one. Expenses are to be expected.

Do you think a guy who buys a Lambo, or a Ferrari complains about the price of brakes? No, it all comes with the terrority.

I actually thought that a top would have been more than that.

Your also paying for the window and retractable frame. If just the fabric needs replacing, it would cost less to have it custom made at one of those specialized shops.

+1 The hard part would be to make it look right.

When I had my top replaced I decided which 3rd party would install it. I found a shop that specializes in just soft tops. Most of these places deal with classic cars such as old muscle cars, MG's, 80's Porsches etc. I couldn't believe the quality of work. I kind of wish Nissan would have paid them to custom make a "fabric" soft top for my car instead of the hybrid nylon which probably ended up costing them twice as much.

It is pretty easy right now to convince Nissan to give you a new top. I believe they have a bulliten about certain tops and issues they have with the stiching. The price of just a top alone without the frame is usually from $1400-$1700 depending on color and model when it comes time for any replacement outside of your warranty.
