Looks like I also have a small seam separation on passenger side. Only about 1inch length but looks like some of the existing material has also been pulled off when the seam separated. Just a circular 1/4 inch area.

Any idea whether this will be covered by warranty? hopefully won't get a hard time with it. I'm at 33k miles so will take it in for a look at my next service coming up in a few hundred miles.

Can someone explain better to me where to look, I just got mine in August, and have not noticed any problems, but I do not know exactly what I am looking for.

Take a look at the first post in this topic, there is a good picture of it there. They start out slow, and progress over time. Needless to say, it is best to catch it before you drive in the rain, as it can leak.
As for the tear, if you are still having trouble, they are on the seam along the back part of the top, just above the rear window, where the seams that go fore and aft along the sides meet that side to side seam.

If I had to guess its because when the top retracts there must be excess stress at that point in combination with a weak seem design.

I would like to know if the problem lies with the plant where the Z was built? Mine ('04.5) was built at the Oppama plant! So far I have no problems.

I doubt it, it is more of a quality issue with the material of the top and the process of making that seam. If it were cloth, we might not be having the problems of seam separation.

My point is...If each plant is getting tops from different suppliers there might be a chance for a remedy. Example...Levi Jeans with the same style # is made in at least four different countries. You can believe this or not but their is a big difference in the quality coming from certain countries. In other words they are not all made the same with the exact jean fabric material. Some are really crappy....I found that out!! It's been a while since I bought jeans but the jeans that were made in Mexico & USA were great...the ones from Costa Rica I believe were terrible. Just my 2 cents worth!

Here's a pic of my area on the passenger side. For those who have had tops replaced, do you think this will qualify?

That looks like the start of a separation.

Default WOW !!! I Was Wrong!

I voted earlier today. I did not notice the slight separation in my top until I took a real close look late today.

I have a one inch separation on the drivers side, right above and to the left of the window. I will have to get with my Dealer and get one ordered.

Well, I have the third top on my car now, and will be getting the fourth here soon. My car rolled out of the Oppama plant as well. Where the three different tops came from I don't know, but I'm quite certain you can rule out the worker having a bad day or using the same batch of fabric. It is the design.

The problem is, I love this car. I have it broken in, and I can predict how it will react in situations now. I am one with my car. Besides, I simply want Nissan to finally figure it out and fix this simple problem. Two small separations (I caught them early), and now this new seam issue that I just want them to fix. I am guessing a top shop could simply sew it correctly, and I'd be fine with that.
The lemon law thing is intriguing though, I could slide myself behind the wheel of an 06 in the interlagos fire......
