Default WTB - Zr, What to look out for?

Hey guys and girls,

I am going to be looking for a ZR and wanted to see what I need to look out for, if anything? I know the '03 coupes had the feathering and some transmission problems. Just wondering if there was something or anything with the ZR? I am going to buy used, and by the time I decide to pull the trigger, it will probably be Fall or Winter here on the east coast, but, oh well.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

with ZR, look at the cloth closely. Inside and out, some wear out faster than others. Other wise, check the transmission for grinding and interior for sound(rattling and creaking)

I don't think there were to many feathering issues with 2004's, but there have been a lot of problems with the 2004 tops, seems pin holes or tears along the seams happen quite often. Nissan has been good about replacing them. My brother just had his replaced and they have changed the design of the top to fix the problems. The old tops had the seem right on top of the rear bar, the newer tops have the seams above the rear bar

Thanks so far. Wondering how long the tops last for? My neighbor has a MR2 and he had to replace the top after 4 years. Is that the average length? Seems kinda short.
If I listen for grinding, I am guessing the ZR's have had an issue with the transmission? I just thought that may ahve been an earlier coupe thing?

A lot of ZR's have had top problems replaced under warranty. Even the earliest ZR's are only three years old now so longitivity of the top won't be realized for a while.

If your going to buy one, look for pinholes near the rear/top edges, and carefully examine the seams.

make sure the top motor works right. open and close the top a couple of times to ensure it isnt dying.
